The economics of self-releasing music as physical media, a thread.
My first self-released CD is SEA OTTERS by The Bionics, an album of Not-Quite-Techno made in a very analogue way, and on our Bandcamp page along with 17 back catalogue treats.

Slightly heartbroken. My late father's projector, which has been around all my life at least, and that I still use each year to make the family calendar, went 'pop' this morning and appears to have died. It turned out a wire in the plug thing had come loose, but fixing that has not revived it.

Look, listen, this is MAGNIFICENT and guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time.
I've not plugged this in a while, but if you still haven't got yourself a copy of my Rodigan endorsed Sleng Teng rework of Eddie Cochran's Somethin' Else, then what are you waiting for? rongorongorongo.bandcamp.com/album/someth...

GIVE YOUR CAR A HOLIDAY (1967)
Gang Of Four. Not proud.
What is your biggest musical blindspot for someone precisely your age?
For me - an elder millennial - it is that I have never knowingly listened to INCUBUS, nor could I name even one of their songs if you put a gun to my head.

Just been called a Luddite by someone who calls himself a "Digital Creator" and uses AI for his artwork, but oh no not for his music oh no.
It brings to mind an old folk song from my youth which goes something like: "I would rather be a picket than a scab."

In an ideal world, the next Director General of the BBC would scrap the BBC's dedicated News channel, replace all of BBC News's political correspondents, and commission a load of new scripted drama and comedy along with a set of brand new music-orientated shows.-

Once again the reactionary & mysteriously funded Restore Trust have been defeated in the National Trust’s memberships elections - a good breakdown of it all here. As ever, despite harrumphing culture warriors of a certain age, Britain is open to discussing our complex history
National Trust council elections saw a defeat for the Restore Trust campaign.
35k members voted to re-elect a slate of council candidates endorsed by the nominations committee
12k - 13.5k voted for candidates on Restore Trust slate
Non-slate candidated

Goddam a real monster.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

God alone knows what sperm whales think about all this.
no but they’ve asked whale scientists and most of them prefer “killer whale” because it’s less cute and might deter some people from trying to interact with wild killer whales

This is really interesting , thanks to @fennerpearson.bsky.social. For me the fact that she doesn't paint her pictures doesn't detract from them, or her. Or maybe I'm giving her a free pass because I've been such a fan for so long. Unlike, say, D. Hirst.
