Getting more and more uneasy at the way left-leaning* speakers talk about "algorithms." I have the same emotional reaction to the sense of a faceless force, but--hear me out--converting that kind of feeling directly into a generalized** belief is the root of conspiracy brain, and no one is immune.

The main disadvantage of language and cognition is that I have lightheartedly talked myself into a deep and abiding need for a Jennifer Garner reprise in "16 Going on 60." You see it, don't you

Every time I ride BART I see someone struggling to get into or out of the station with their phone. Even if I didn't have a history of phones that don't hold charge (potentially leaving me trapped somewhere), I wouldn't make this change.

Deeply annoyed to report that avoiding coffee for a week correlates with a bit of improvement to my terrible digestion

Gonna have to add “Night Swimming” to the unacceptable grocery store songs list I see
Grocery store music is playing Isobel, this feels unacceptable somehow

One of the happiest updates I’ve written since I started following this story. 12 students back in status and maybe more to come. Across the country, students are saying their SEVIS is back.

12 UC Berkeley students' visas restored by ICE in nationwide reversal
At UC Berkeley, 12 students have had their status restored today after 23 were terminated since April 4.

I’m working on a joke about Procrustes but it always comes out too long or too short
I have a joke about Eris but I’m only going to tell it to the prettiest one of you
I have a joke about Delphi, but you'll just misinterpret it.

common mistake, actually omelette means "little omelas" -- so named because there's a fraction of a suffering child folded in, so that it can taste good

That’s it, this is just a “heard the cat vomiting and can’t get back to sleep” blog now
I just heard the cat cough up a truly massive hairball, but I’ve looked all over and I can’t find it. It’s 2 AM. I really don’t want someone to find this the hard way?

They say AI can’t really think, just predict the next word it’s supposed to say. That’s why it sometimes spouts nonsense.

But you are the same. Your predictions are much better, but you still make mistakes. You felt it each time you said “you too” when a waiter thanked you, or called a teacher mom.

Not like regular crying, like "That part in in the intro to the Mountain Goats song You Were Cool, when John Darnielle specifies that he's connected with the woman he wrote the song about, and she's fine now, and she's doing great" kinda crying.

(very important baby animal content)
Ok so. Who would like to hear a story.

Many of you know about my nemesis, the Viriginia opossum. Do not @ me with the thing about how omg they eat ticks; that's been disproven. (See Hennessy, Hild (2021) doi.org/10.1016/j.tt... )

This is a story about a different kind of possum. A better kind.

Are we limiting how we think about Actual Play as an artform by describing it as fiction?

What happens if we frame AP as nonfiction first, fiction second?
