Right, I am off work (yes some of us "soldiered" on during Christmas), so got some time to put down coherent thoughts on a range of events. First of all, the Trumpian battleship. Which as part of Trump's "Golden Fleet" even got its (her) own website. 🧵

There's a good case for electric ferries. It ought to suffice for trips up to 3-4 hours (the faster the ferry, the shorter the route possible). That's a large part of the world's ferry routes.
With a diesel generator as backup of course.

The second prototype of the IS-7 heavy tank was assembled #OTD in 1946. This was a truly impressive vehicle for its time, with unmatched protection and firepower, but it proved too complicated and too heavy for mass production. #tanks #history

Några relevanta observationer om ubåtar i grunda vatten. Är verkligen Blekinge-klassen rätt ubåt? Vore det kanske bättre med ett större antal mindre båtar, runt 500t eller så?

Interesting point on affordability. I don't think in the end similar manned and unmanned capabilities will differ so much in price.
You are not going to treat $50M or $30M platform as disposable. It will carry basically the same systems. One could instead perhaps consider a pilot a 500kg payload.

#OTD in 1942 the 24th and 25th Tank Corps raided the German airfields supplying Paulus in Stalingrad. As a result, no supplies arrived at all on Dec 24-25th and deliveries for the rest of the year were severely reduced, particularly when it came to fuel #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

#OTD in 1930 a Christie tank was finally sent to the USSR. Christie failed to supply a turret or detailed blueprints as initially agreed, as a result of which the USSR withheld a sum of $25,000. This soured the relationship between the two irreparably. #tanks #history

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Valentine tanks in Red Army service was their low traction when driving on ice. #OTD in 1943 a report was composed on designs of additional spurs for this tank, which proved quite effective. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII

Men vad händer i praktiken? Ja, i praktiken är det ”business as usual”, skriver operationsanalytikern och f d amfibiegruppchefen Felix Brodin.

This net launcher looks quite usable. I can also see it fitted to vehicles. Either integrated with an existing APS system (no need to use high performance interceptors on FPV-drones) or wired to a "budget APS" based on automotive components.
Ukrainian soldiers say the most effective defense against fiber-optic FPV drones remains the combo of a “Safari” shotgun and the “Ptashka” net launcher. If the drone survives buckshot, it’s caught by a 4x4m net fired up to 30m.

Worth answering on main: infantry depth is primarily psychological and only secondarily about replacing losses or changing out ranks.

But that psychological factor is so important that functionally all contact infantry fight with depth and usually quite a lot of it (4 to 10 ranks being normal).

I actually don't think this is such a bad idea. With VLS launched SAMs comes also the sensors and combat mgmt systems.
Skipping the VLS reduces size, compexity, lead times and all sorts of costs.
It's kind of hilarious that this is a downgrade from the retired, much lamented FFG-7 class, which at least had a single arm launcher for Harpoon and Standard Missiles (SM-1 and 2). The OHPs were great ships. www.twz.com/sea/navys-ne...
Navy’s New Frigate Will Not Have A Vertical Launch System For Missiles
FF(X) will initially have the same armament installed as the Littoral Combat Ships, relying on uncrewed platforms and modular payloads for expanded capability.
