Eighty-one years ago today, over 7,000 prisoners of the German Nazi camp #Auschwitz, including some 700 children, were liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Army.

1,689 days of murder, pain, suffering, and humiliation were over.
Today, we all remember. We must keep remembering.

Howick Library needs a new roof and while the works are underway the library will need to close for around six months. Staff explored keeping it open but it was too complex, expensive, and would take longer.

Rates capping is bad policy - it won't address the cost of living and officials know it

"The proposal was “incomplete in design and operational detail” and ministers didn’t have enough information to make properly informed decisions."
Is a $2.79 monthly saving worth the shemozzle? 'Yes, all savings are worthwhile,' says local government minister Simon Watts. Jonathan Milne reports from the aisles of Auckland's supermarkets.

This great little play is fun, but not very realistic.

Many renters have no idea who their landlord even is — they deal with some corporate property management company.
Renter: I would like to negotiate
Landlord: no.

Rates capping is a bad idea - it's an overly simplistic answer to complex problem.

If the Government was serious about reducing the burden of rates, they'd give councils more options to generate revenue - like returning GST on rates (approx $317m) or paying rates on Government properties.
