On Monday, I attended Elected Members training, along with members of Howick, Aotea Great Barrier, Waiheke, Waitematā, Ōrākei, & Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Boards. Also joined by Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Councillor Josephine Bartley & Deputy Mayor (Ōrākei Councillor) Desley Simpson.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to remember those trans people we have lost to violence, discrimination, and bigotry.

It forms part of Trans Awareness Week, which is an opportunity to celebrate the beauty, resilience, and courage of the trans community.

With Rā Hihi flyover open, Eastern Busway are continuing to build the busway along Ti Rakau Dr through to Botany.

To enable this, changes will be in place on Tī Rākau Dr in both directions between Pakūranga Rd and William Roberts Rd from Fri 24 October to Sat 27 December.

In the meantime, I've collated the Howick Local Board data for the last term (January 2023 to September 2025). Over this period we had a total of 40 business meetings and 100 workshops.

With 3 days to go, 211,275 votes have been received from across Auckland making up 17.7% of eligible voters.

For the Howick Local Board / Howick Ward, the turnout varies with Howick and Pakūranga both above the regional average, Botany the same, and Flat Bush below it.

If you haven't received your voting papers, you can go to Botany Library and they will help you out.

To ensure your vote is received in time, make sure you deliver to the orange voting boxes available in council libraries, selected supermarkets, retailers & transport stations.

We were entertained by performances ranging from traditional Chinese Opera through to modern line dancing. Then we shared a wonderful meal, celebrating the diversity of our local population.

Auckland Transport (AT) is proposing:
- pedestrian refuge on Cook St
- Upgrade corners on Gibraltar St with kerb ramps, helping people with strollers or wheelchairs
- Relocate bus stop to increase visibility
- Install new section of footpath to connect Cook St to Stevenson Reserve

Diwali is an important Hindi festival that symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. As we celebrate together, it was a good reminder of the connections to the wider world.

I joined fellow Howick Local Board member Adele White, along with Councillors, Local Board members and the MP for Takanini. We were entertained by performances from Indian, Fijian, Samoan and Chinese groups, while we dined on delicious traditional food and sweets.
