“The harms young people experience online are not separate from the harms they face offline… A ban treats social media as the problem, rather than asking deeper questions about why certain behaviours – harassment, shaming, misogyny, exploitation – occur in the first place.”

The problem of conversion therapy is, as ever, not that conversion therapy doesn't work (although that's true) but that it constitutes an act of violence to suppress almost exclusively vulnerable people's core psychological development and that is devastating.

New post: LABOUR'S SECTION 28 IS HERE - ACT NOW.

I explain how the Labour government's proposed revisions to the guidance on "keeping children in education" are designed to erase trans children in England. But it's not a done deal - there is plenty we can do to oppose this.
Labour’s Section 28 is here – act now
In May 1988, the Conservative government introduced Section 28. This legal measure outlawed support for “homosexuality as a pretended family relationship” across Britain, especially in …

In parallel we need to document & advocate & shout about how harmful this whole approach is.

We shout and advocate through literally any other means than throwing our words at a consultation managed by a government that hates us.

We need to build a body of energy to support non-compliance with this hateful guidance.

We need to build pockets of protection & safety for trans pupils.

We are in 'try & help trans kids survive' mode.

I am one of the most published academics on the childhood social transition, with 5 peer reviewed articles that relate to the topic.

There is so much evidence of benefit of social transition.

There is no evidence of harm. Not one jot.

This will literally kill trans kids. No exaggeration.

That we won't sit back and celebrate if we achieve freedom from segregation in the workplace.

That we will notice & care about the segregation in our schools.

It is heart-breaking hearing of young people I know well who have struggled through so much adversity through their childhoods, who are now facing completely intolerable levels of discrimination.

Targeted healthcare denial.
Targeted school humiliation & segregation.
How are they meant to go on?

It seems very likely they are going to try to enforce segregation on our youngest and most vulnerable, pushed through on the basis of 'safeguarding' and 'child protection'.

Trans children never get to be safe. Are never worthy of protection.

When the reporting says "EHRC guidance does not apply to workplaces" the next question needs to be "Where does it apply then?".

Who is going to be segregated? Who is going to have their rights, dignity & freedom stomped on by our Government?

Every day I hear a new upsetting story about how trans kids are being treated in our schools.

When responding to today's important claim that segregation might not apply to workplaces - let's not leave behind our youngest community members who are being completely failed across our schools.

On underestimates:
- The threshold for suicide in children is high (death by misadventure or self harm not suicide).
- Children who die under age 10 are not recorded
- Trans kids are often not recorded as such due to 'parental shame', coroner censure or simply lack of knowledge of them being Trans
This is a massive scandal.
