I like bicycles and coffee. Active transportation policy nerd mostly in a California context. Movement by bike, on foot, on buses and trains. I've been around. Old GenX guy who respects pronouns. He / him.

Wow! Seattle Mountain Rescue has an emergency e-bike team to quickly find and assist people in need of help far from roads. They posted this great story:

Jeff tells me USGS webcams are now available! This one points at the Guadalupe River just upstream of Hwy 101. That's the San Jose Airport long term parking structure. The bike path is down by the river. Link --> apps.usgs.gov/hivis/camera...
I like that UGSG has camera archives now ... it is a little easier to judge than depth or flow stats.

Now that we seem to be entering California's winter monsoon, allow me to remind Bay Area cyclists that my automated trail flooding status gizmo for Santa Clara County California is still in operation.

Professional photojournalist Jakub "Kuba" Mosur shoots all around the world for AP, Reuters, etc. I'm shooting a cycling event in SF with my tiny MFT Olympus and he asks if I'm a professional, ha ha. See a sample of his work jakubmosur.photoshelter.com/index/G0000r...

He also does fun Strava Art.

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I'm in San Francisco to shoot photos during the Supermarket Street Sweep, but I also learned today is the last SF Tweed Ride organized by Jon (aka "bike curious") and Melissa (aka "Bike Pretty"). Which should I do?

Santa Cruz County declared a local emergency due to the suspension of federal food assistance. Which is great, but the notification is kind of a mess

I've been following this issue for decades: Research over the years continues to show a link between air pollution -- primarily from automobile traffic -- and dementia. Gift link.

Dr Swain does an excellent job summarizing some problems with the Gates climate memo. I wish my brain was as well organized as his.
I wanted to offer some thoughts on the Gates climate memo that has been circulating this week. While I can't directly speak for others, I can say that my own response is one of dismay & deep frustration (and that this view is shared by many climate/Earth scientists). [1/n]
