An 1862 engraving of the scene at Harzburg chapel in 1075. This very imaginative reconstruction shows an open sarcophagus in the crypt surrounded by Saxon rebels dressed in what looks like surplus Wagner stage props. A man holding a mace is shining the light of his torch on the dead body in the coffin while a second, holding a spear, points down at it. Behind them, a figure wearing a horned helmet holds up a sword and seems to be making a speech. In the left background, a crucifix lies abandoned on the floor. Such fanciful reconstructions of medieval history were very much in vogue during the 19th century. This one is from an Austrian book which suggests its view of the Saxons was less heroic than it would have been north of the border.

Immer häufiger wird die Schuld auf die Opfer abgewälzt. Überall. Unerträglich.

Das Problem mit Reichtumsgefälle ist, das absurd viel Geld automatisch eine Perspektiv-, eine Deutungs- und damit eine Prioritätenverschiebung bedeutet. Nur falls wir uns wundern, warum Politik über Kürzungen in Infrastruktur und Sozialsystemen und nicht über Besteuerung von extremen Reichtum redet.

A Hamburg harbour pub in 1899. The photo shows a cellar entrance with iron railings. Numerous children stand around the stairs. A sign over the door indicates this is a hostelry and breakfast restaurant while the smaller one to the side of the entrance advertises jobs for riverboat machinists. Publicans served as middlemen in the port's job market and unofficially required jobseekers to spend a certain amount on drinks before they provided contacts. This was one of the strikers' main grievances in 1896 and would not be fully remedied until the 20th century. A handbill distributed during the strike. The text in German Fraktur print reads: “Strike in the Port of Hamburg! No worker who values his honour will take a bit of work in the port during the strike!”

@Nick_Davidov Asked Claude Cowork organize my wife's desktop, it stated doing it, asked for a permission to delete temp office files, I granted it, and then it goes "ooops" Turns out it tried renaming and accidentally deleted a folder with all of the photos my wife made on her camera for the last 15 years. All photos of kids, their illustrations, friends' weddings, travel, everything. It's not in trash, it was done via terminal It's not in iCloud, it already synced the new file structure. She didn't have Time Machine. Disc recovery tools can't see anything. I called Apple and they pointed me to a feature in iCloud allowing to retrieve files that were saved before but are no longer on iCloud Drive (they keep them for 30 days). I'm now watching it load tens of thousands of files. I nearly had a heart attack. The troop surround a horse-drawn sled on which the arrested Klostermayr and members of his gang are seated in preparation of conveying them to their trial. The subtitle indicates that this scene depicts the location accurately and identifies the arresting officer as Premier-Lieutenant Schedel of Dillingen.
