I am travelling to Costa Rica from March 2nd to 7th. I'll be flying into Liberia, renting a car, staying at the Greenmount Hotel near the Monteverde Cloud Forest, and expect to go ziplining, to visit the hanging bridges, and to find some guided nature tours.

Advice or thoughts welcome!

Okay, I now have a new personal computer for the first time in ... 6 years? maybe?

(I think I was using a personal laptop regularly through ~2022, but have just been using my work laptop for everything for the past few years, which was not helping with my "working too much" situation.)

This is a non-trivial part of what has happened in my working life for the past 2 months. In getting rid of the need to think a lot of the shitty parts of trying to accomplish tasks, I have been able to accomplish more and feel more rewarded, which has made it harder to put work down and walk away.

The thing about this article is that it explicitly calls out like 7 different political things in the performance. Like, they didn't *miss* the politics. They saw the politics, but they don't consider the political commentary to be political commentary, despite explicitly describing it that way.
Analysis: Weeks before he set foot on the stage, Bad Bunny’s halftime performance had already become a media event.

But if you were looking for political commentary, the closest that you got was when he said “God bless America” in English.
Analysis | Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show was expected to provoke. Did it?
The Bad Bunny Super Bowl show nodded to injustices in Puerto Rico but mostly evoked wholesome family values that meshed with the more sentimental commercials.

I'm looking at travel options to try to take a break from work to reduce my overwork problem. I asked the Gemini browser sidebar thingy to make itineraries and price them for me, and I was pleasantly surprised at how solid the outcome was, *and* how straightforward the format of the response was.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

my wife has enjoyed a lot of game of thrones, but it never appealed to me. Seven Kingdoms is way more my speed, because it highlights One Dude just trying to do the right and just thing among the bunch of assholes that are the royal families of Westeros.

I like it.
The moral earnestness of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" feels a lot more subversive than anything ever attempted in "Game of Thrones."

apparently I get 44 OTA TV channels at the moment. I think like 6 of them are home shopping network channels, and some of them are a bit iffy reception-wise, but that's honestly a lot of TV channels! when I was growing up, I used to get like, 6.

that ai.com ad literally made me laugh out loud. "AGI is coming. get your handle on our service now!" was ... so laughable. not even the slightest hint of an idea that there's some reason why you would want it, just bullshit FOMO

the fact that the whole ad was "ways in which your AI might kill you", and the end result was "oh, but you can also book me a massage? that's fine then" was ... something.
so alexa will kill you horrifically? was that the gist?

A lot of these ads have kind of unsettling animated characters, and I feel like some of them are AI and some aren’t, but they’re all kinda meh.

Were the Backstreet Boys offering a licensing deal for ads this year or something?

Okay, so I've long wanted to take the California Zephyr, but been kinda like "52 hours is long, and it includes the whole Nebraska/Iowa chunk that nobody really cares about."

But I could take it from Denver west instead, and it would instead be a 33 hour trip. Maybe I should do that.

quantifying my level of overwork has been a challenge for me, because so much of my work doesn't involve checking in code. But I realized last night I can use my work command line history as a source of truth, and friends, the reality is Not Good.

(Yes, I know it's bad and needs to be addressed.)

You don't need a garage to own a cargo bike!

We do, however, recommend a storage cover, otherwise you may need to commit to some serious digging out...
