This is not good. We all do realize that it is unlikely that Netflix is doing this to permanently expand their pre 1980 offerings, right? A whole lot of film history is about to disappear.

I wrote a bit for McSweeney's about Isaac Chotiner interviewing Santa Claus. Just a little something for the holiday season. Enjoy!

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

Bottom line

-VAERS is an early-warning system, not evidence of risk.
-It contains unverified, unfiltered, and often irrelevant reports.
-It cannot establish causation, calculate risk, or reflect real frequencies of vaccine injuries.

Another meeting I'm too tired for. 3 hours of fully on and forgetting to hold back, alternating with zoning out.

So what DOES make you sleepy on Thanksgiving?

Odds are good that it's CO₂, especially if you're cooking with gas.

I've seen our indoor air CO₂ spike just over 3,000ppm on Thanksgiving. All the people plus all the gas cooking, it adds up.

OK so here is my Music Theory Explainer for why Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is a genius piece of songwriting.

First, you have to be aware that Cohen is of Jewish extraction (It’s in the name - Cohen).

Next, know that figuring out which key Hallelujah is in, is not easy or straightforward —

One of the ways Cloudflare checks if you're human is to read what you put during their previous outage, because bots don't don't understand how to fake sarcastic swearing yet.

The number and frequency of their outages is a credit to just how seriously they take beta testing their latest technology.

I paused, out of breath. The Void had taken all my frustrated screaming and absorbed it.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "You must have heard all this before, countless times."

'only you,' said the Void, 'scream your frustration like you do'

I took a deep breath to resume, then smiled.

"Thanks."

1L of cream 14 days (daily oatmeal, tea, 3 extra tea = 31 servings) is not 15mL/day, which is what I put in the fancy app. Do I round it to 32mL/serving and call it good enough, or try for more accuracy?

Yeah, and then adjust one of the extra teas.
