Why is there low usage of the 5 Ave NW painted bike lane?

I went for a ride yesterday and maybe its b/c of the icebergs and 5 ton trucks? 🤷‍♂️

Calling #yyc investing in a fancy BRT lane that only exsists out side the downtown core isn’t really investing in any rapid transit. Green Purple & Yellow Max lines need to have dedicated transit lanes at the heart of where they are bringing people too.

The looming reality that fills the spaces between every water main emergency: even after Calgary takes steps to make our water infrastructure more reliable, our city is on two relatively small rivers. As we grow to 2mil people, developing a different relationship to water will become a necessity.
Calgary's water demand is on track to exceed Calgary's licenced water withdrawal limits within 10 years. Our licence serves the towns of Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore as well as the CNOOC Power Plant that generates electricity by burning fossil fuels and then needs water to cool everything down.

My kid sometimes chooses a route home that consists of crossing 4 lanes of traffic.
We siad ‘fine, but make sure you look every driver in the eye before you cross in front of them.
Intersection safety starts with all of us.🚦
Last year, 15 pedestrians lost their lives on our streets. This number must go down.
January is Intersection Safety Month. This student-created video reminds us to slow down, put phones away, and stay cautious at intersections.

2Stair Hallways allow a burning unit with an open door to infect a massive number of units with smoke, and then force people to travel long distances through that smoke.

The idea that this status quo is good / better than single stair is just crazy.

My first act of 2026 was to thank my city for pedestrianizing a nearby road even if it was just for tonight.

Good Morning #yyc it sounds like I have a reason to show off the low tech water saving system we have been using since the last water main break and never stopped using so it was full and ready to go before last nights new break. Maybe worth trying it out.

Another water main break and somehow a 10 y/o cycle track, public art and anti-sprawl policy are to blame… 🤦‍♂️

In what reality does a fraction of fraction of a percent of budget on these things impact water capital budgets. 🤷‍♂️

Hint: it doesn’t

This is the way all busses should be wrapped!
“Give way” … one bus equals 80 cars and 80 people (on the back of all the city buses in Baku).

“Climate-related disasters caused severe economic harm in 2025, with the 10 most costly responsible for damage exceeding €100 billion.”

The true costs are MUCH higher & rising fast.

They want us to think we can’t afford to change to address the #ClimateCrisis. The truth is we can’t afford NOT to.
Ten most costly climate-related disasters this year caused €100bn damage
Californian wildfires were the most expensive financially

Painted cycle lanes are the non-smoking sections of today's urban landscape.

Both recognize a problem and the harms it causes, but are designed without the will or imagination required to implement a real solution.

Would love everyone in #yyc to watch this especially our new council. The 28 minute mark suggests solutions that would make our city safer.
SERIOUSLY, WATCH THIS: If you really want to understand how huge SUVs and pick-up trucks have ended up being MOST of the vehicles out there in our cities, and the absolutely INSANE consequences of that, watch this easy-to-watch video by #NotJustBikes. Then please share it as much as you can.

Yet another pedestrian death on Calgary's streets. This time a woman in her 40s who was crossing with a walk signal. This article doesn't include the context that #yyc has surpassed last year’s 10-year high for fatal traffic collisions. We need to talk about this more. #yyccc
