What does a 40% NIH budget cut mean for funding chances (now ~15%)?

You might think “60% of the money left = 9% success”

❌ NOPE!!!

1-3%

because 80% of the budget is for existing grants

New science? Starved
Ongoing grants? Slashed 😢

"Under the terms of the executive order, political appointees loyal to the president can willfully find justification to label any research finding as scientific misconduct"

This should terrify every single scientist in America.

This breaks my heart. My salary at St. Jude was paid through our comprehensive cancer center grant. My wife's oncologist is at a comprehensive cancer center. Millions of children and adults with cancer get treatment in these 57 centers around the country. These are essential locations for research.🧪
The NCI grant supporting the Columbia comprehensive cancer center was terminated. Tell me how terminating support for cancer research helps the economy.
