This morning’s outage shows just how many Internet sites, services, and SaaS can be affected in one go:- Atlassian, AWS, Canva, Lyft, Ring, Signal, Zoom to name just a few.

This is where good BC and DR planning comes in, what would your business do if *everything* is down?

Meanwhile in America, this headline has very “ugh, why won’t disabled people and asthmatics just die” vibes about it ☠️

Saw Sigur Rós last night in Amsterdam, a very different experience than the Royal Albert Hall, much more intimate compared to last week and easier to hear the orchestra (being deaf). Great venue too, a theatre originally built as a permanent horse circus space!

The Venn diagram of people who can’t understand why many fear how ID cards could be used in the UK and people who are white cis-het and non-disabled is a perfect circle.

If you’re part of one or more minority groups then the fear is real in the current global political climate. #DigitalID #IDCards

Ticket queuing system for Nick Cave was a lot less painful than I expected, although maybe I was just super-lucky. Joined the queue at 10:00, 10:02 had bought tickets 😮

If you are concerned about the impact of the EHRC’s proposed guidance, please do write to your MP.

Trans+ Solidarity Alliance have created a great template, it takes just a couple of minutes to do.
Great to see that lots of Liberal Democrat MPs have written to Bridget Phillipson, calling for full scrutiny of the EHRC's proposed guidance.

Contact your MP and tell them to do the same. Follow our steps here:

Question for gardeners / allotment people: we’ve successfully grown a melon, if I save some of the seeds am I likely to be able to use next year, or are they like pumpkin and not as likely to fruit? #allotment #gardening

Having seen a prime time Fox News anchor calling for the murder of homeless people in America, it looks like the Overton Window has been moved so far to the right it has defenestrated itself.

Taxing pensioners is an attractive “quick-fix” headline. The reality is much different with the days of rich-retirees on final salary pensions long gone.

Pensions pots continue to shrink, so taxing pensioners with relatively low income isn’t going to be the tax receipt boom the headlines suggest.
I think one issue with taxing pensions - eg NI on pension income particularly (I'm fine with many of the other suggestions here) is that while some pensioners are rich/comfortably off, the incoming generation of pensioners, ie GenX, does not have fat, taxable pensions.
With whispers of drastic changes to tax relief, lump sum allowances, and even National Insurance on pension income, the UK pension system is poised for a seismic shift, says expert Tom McPhail ⬇️

Went to a Deaf Rave DJ workshop today, and it was *brilliant*. Run by Troi Lee (DJ Chinaman - played Glasto, Boomtown, has run Deaf Raves for years), taught us the basics of mixing, and the Woojer haptic vests were 🤯 a whole new music experience!!! 10/10 would recommend 👌

Love Dan’s 🧵on his autistic lived experience. Reminds me of Dr Stephen Shore’s famous quote “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.”
Other night I heard someone lamenting about how "people with autism make it their whole personality". Now, me being me, I obviously have some thoughts on this, not least of which being that I "am autistic", I don't "have autism", which makes it sound like a contagious disease which can be cured. 1/

Think you know what a “benefit” is when you see headlines like this? I’m pretty confident most people wouldn’t know it includes stuff like the NHS and state education 😮

Great breakdown as always by Emma Monk —>
Following Farage’s announcement that he plans to make “serious cuts to the welfare budgets” if he wins the next election, I’ve seen this claim being repeated from last year’s headlines again.

So let’s take a look at the the reality rather than the weaponised version

Hot Chip talking on BBC 6 Music earlier about their music and new best of album (Joy In Repetition) was great! Seen them several times now and, for me at least, they’re the kind of band that deliver pure joy at their gigs! Good to hear they’ll prob tour next year, I need to hear Flutes live again!!

Got up to the allotment between the storms, it’s gone nuts over the last few days!! Courgettes, carrots, another kilo of beans, and several kilos of tomatoes. This weekend will be making and canning roasted tomato sauce, and cooking a batch of apple butter 😍 #allotmentlife #gardening
