I'd strongly question if that's true. Most people aren't aware of how far down that road we've already gone, which in itself is scary.

I'm a security researcher who works with identify and access management.
iDCards will just make it easier to use govt services and identify people.
It's better the government runs it with public oversight than private firms.
There are good quality laws protecting the data , it's not black mirror.

There's a big difference between my German ID card & what is proposed by #Labour:
1) German ID card is digitally enabled physical card not digital ID
2) German ID cards system has strong data privacy built in
3) Germany digitised existing system; UK govt would consolidate lots of systems #IDcards
