this is arguably more annoying than bots since at least in cases like those you can tell pretty easily when someone's not a person

Today I discovered there's an app that folks can use to automatically follow people on Bluesky in the effort to build their own follower counts. Which helps explain some of what's going on. Can't say I care for it!

gotta admit: it is nice to not have my brain obliterated the moment i log on, but knowing the demo this site is trying to appeal to, it's going to be interesting to see what cog-hazards end up influencing site culture.
