A decade ago, a study revealed public perception was being skewed by the prevalence of American cop shows such as Law & Order: SVU on how often crimes are solved and the “bad guy” ends up in prison. That study (and several that followed) found that perceptions were skewed not only on how often crimes are solved, but how many result in jury trials, and the suspects sentenced for their crimes.

During a press conference Thursday afternoon, Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope confirmed that the father of 19-year-old stabbing suspect Adam Miller was killed during the attack, and his mother remains hospitalized. Pope said the couple are Miler's adoptive parents. Adam Miler, 19, is a suspect in the stabbing of his parents. "She is expected to survive," Pope added, referring to his mother.

Public comment submitted before and during the meeting was overwhelmingly against the ordinance. Of comments sent before the meeting, 27 opposed each of the items, with only four in favor .

More parks! More wetlands and multi use paths! Every new development no matter how small should be required to provide some sort of park to the public.
The new park will be paid for by developers, but must be constructed to city standards and the design approved by Carson City Parks and Recreation.

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission will discuss a concept design for a new 10-acre park proposed within the Lompa Ranch North Specific Plan Area (SPA), which is currently under development. The meeting is scheduled for Dec. 3, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The SPA is located within central Carson City, north of East 5th Street, south of Highway 50, and has land on both the east and west sides of the freeway.

I gave myself a deadline of my birthday (6 days from now) to have the first draft of my book completed. I still have about a dozen scenes to go, and the baby decided today to pop out her third tooth. Last time teething lasted two weeks. This is how I die.

Took my cool baby teen cousin thrifting today and talked music. She says she loves midwestern emo but has never heard of Bright Eyes or Brand New. Instead loves MCR and the Smiths. Says she isn’t into pop punk, but likes Blink 182. I am so, so confused by these kids lmao.

I need 2024 book recommendations that are quick reads because I am seriously behind on my goal for this year. I spent too much time on Big Thinker books that took forever to get through 😭 Speculative / near-future / Fantasy always appreciated 🙏🏻

Everyone, look at other social media sites like Facebook now. Independent journalism was squashed by algorithms seemingly overnight while misinformation and AI nonsense increase daily. Our “reaches”were cut in half from one week to the next and never recovered despite significant follower increases.
i am of course a lil bit conflicted about leaving X (not bc of my followers but bc the job is to reach people and i think filter bubbles can have real effects too) but i think what Musk has done changes the calculus and i laid that case out here

Our “reaches”were cut in half from one week to the next and never recovered despite significant follower increases.
