I guess being a consultant on holidays and weekends is kind of like being George Washington?

"Episode 40: Nonfiction" is here!

Dan and Sarah welcome back Dr. Bob Macauley and Dr. Chris Adrian to discuss writing about #pedpc (Bob's new book in particular: bookshop.org/p/books/beca...), and how narrative, personal trauma, and clinical practice intersect.

The first autism diagnosis was in 1943. ADHD traits were first spotted in 1798. The first medical treatment for ADHD was in 1937. His grandfather lobotomized his aunt, Rosemary, for showing neurodivergent traits in 1941. He was born in 1954. He’s a grifter, a liar, and most importantly a eugenicist
RFK JR: ADD, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, Narcolepsy, Autism.. All of these are injuries that I never heard of when I was a kid.

I know everyone keeps saying how bad things are, but this is very very bad.
CDC source:

“We just had word that all our fellows and post doc staff are laid off effective immediately. The famous Epidemic Intelligence Service, aka the Disease Detectives, is no more. That’s 1260 staff.

They are calling this ‘Phase 1’.”

The government isn’t a business. You can’t smash and fix what needs fixing later because unlike a social media app, peoples lives depend on a functional government at all times. This is the dumbest timeline.

Hi #hapc25 and #palliative care community; have you heard about Dr. Richard Payne? He was a true pioneer and paved the way for many of us caring underserved patients in #hpm. A pioneer, IDT mentor and so so much more. Let’s learn and celebrate him. www.thehastingscenter.org/news/dr-rich...
Dr. Richard Payne Remembered
The Hastings Center’s staff and board of directors are profoundly saddened by the passing on January 3 of their friend, colleague, and trustee, Richard

I’ll just use this thread to say how I love to see this dialogue again on a social media platform. The #hpc #pedpc community over on the former bird that existed years ago was wonderful. #MedBlueSky
I have observed a trend towards blindly offering trach and PEG to any family whose loved one has been intubated for about 2 weeks.

How do you handle conversations about what to do next when caring for patients you don’t anticipate to ever return to a meaningful quality of life?

The burnout epidemic CANNOT be resolved with self care. It is job related. Hospital executives must improve working conditions : reduce template size, number of clicks in EHR, increase time with patients, appoint leaders who like and value clinical care.

He must be a really terrible doctor.
Wow.
As Rs gear up to cut healthcare, Sen. Marshall says, "Look, about 70% of your health outcomes are determined by you. It's determined by what you eat & what you're surrounded by. By the time you come to my office as a doctor, I can impact maybe 10 or 20% of your health outcomes"

Today is *not* a “peaceful transfer of power.” It’s the completion of a violent coup attempt that began this morning four years ago. Yes, Trump won the ‘24 election; but he was only able to run because we failed to fully confront the fact of that violent coup attempt.

the clear sign that they just don’t see these kids as real people is the endless concern over hypotheticals and the indifference to the reality that actual children are more likely to kill themselves because of these bans
Kavanaugh also brings up "detransitioners," people who "regret" their decision to transition genders. Like Alito, he cites European countries that are "pulling back" from gender-affirming care for minors, saying it's a "yellow light" or "red light" for the court that Europe is "pumping the brakes."
