THIS IS CANON

if you never hear from me again, it is because I fell down the rabbit hole of this YouTube channel, never to return

Less than 2 minutes into this animatronic Looney Tunes revue and Bugs has already name-dropped Martin Luther King, Jr, Daffy has mentioned the Cuban Missle Crisis and Twenty Bird has performed "Itsy-Bitsy Teenie-Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini." HOW AM I JUST NOW DISCOVERING THIS
February 9, 2026 at 7:51 PM
THE most mind-blowing, "how-did-I-not-know-this-existed" detail I have learned is that there was a Showbiz Pizza/Chuck E. Cheese-style restaurant with animatronic Looney Tunes characters voiced by Mel Blanc singing cover songs and doing stage patter.

8 parts in total, this is the story of Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies being given the full "Ken Burns" treatment. Highly recommended.

It has been 3 years since the last installment of this YouTube documentary series about the history of Looney Tunes but WOW was this final installment worth the wait.

3+ hours long! I'm only 45 minutes into it and there is so much great stuff in this.

I know nothing about rocket science (neither does Elon, apparently), but this feels a lot like Hollywood realizing that broadcast television is a better business model than streaming ninety years after the invention of broadcast television

Both shows went well! Greenfinch is a terrific venue. Hopefully I'll be back in STL before too long!

Probably never! But who knows? We couldn't find a new home for it, and when we tried to do a live episode in L.A. it only sold a dozen tickets.

In the meantime, James & I are writing Disney comic books: the current run of STITCH and next week, a DuckTales Valentine's Day Special!

I approach EVERY audition assuming I won't get it, and I don't care, and it feels great

I think there have been like 5 jobs in the course of a decade where I allowed myself to hope for it, and of those 5 jobs I booked exactly NONE of them

I just let myself be fully surprised if something goes well
February 5, 2026 at 9:06 PM
A fun little showbiz lesson that you can never remind yourself of enough: NEVER GET YOUR HOPES UP MORE THAN A LITTLE BIT

Allow yourself like a tiny 5% boost of "oh, this will be fun IF it happens"

Anything more than that is just BEGGING for a rug-pull

There will always be an exec ready to ruin it

I have never gambled but have now multiple times had the experience of feeling like I just lost upwards of $1000 bc an entertainment industry gig was *about* to happen and then it all fell apart at the very last minute after I had already mentally spent the money

This box is like the kind of thing I would have a dream about and then wake up frustrated that the thing this good would never actually exist in reality.

It is so good that makes me wish every movie I love had a companion set like this, even though I'm not sure any other film ever will!

One book is photos, the other is an account of the making of the film that is super-detailed but is well-written & edited in way that it is consistently interesting.

The current TASCHEN sale includes the Lee Unkrich 2-volume box set about THE SHINING, which is one of the best things I've ever owned.

If you like Kubrick's The Shining, I cannot recommend this highly enough:

The Collector's Vault & Collector's Choice blu-rays are all excellent!

There are also a ton of them on Tubi, in batches of 3 (with ads)

The second that Maltese is no longer writing them, there is a slight tendency to go back to the well of certain gags.

But that initial run of roughly a decade is so amazing. They are clearly putting in the effort to keep surprising the audience.
February 3, 2026 at 6:43 PM
Seriously, watch one of them a day for a while, in order, it is SUCH a good experience.

For one thing, the "shuffle mode" nature of how most of us experience them makes it seem like they repeat a lot of gags. MOST of that repetition doesn't start until Maltese moves to MGM & CJ is working w/o him
February 3, 2026 at 6:41 PM
Anyway, if anyone has a notion of how something like this could happen, let me know!

I really feel like this year is a rare moment to pay tribute to this body of short films, right before the long-awaited release of COYOTE VS ACME.
