Auf einer Holzkiste steht ein Heathkit Analogrechner aus den 1950ern, daneben Typ 551 Zweistrahl-Oszilloskop von Tektronix von ca. 1960. An der Wand dahinter hängt eine Schultafel mit 5-stelligen dekadischen Logarithmen.

Basteln zu Weihnachten ist immer beliebt, um so mehr Bausatz und Lernheft zur Sprachsynthese. Besonders Letzteres ist heute noch genauso informativ wie 1963 mit viel Grundlagenwissen zur Sprache.

Auf einem hellbraunen Parkettboden liegen Ober- und Unterteil einer Schachtel, ein Heft und verschiedene Bauteile. Die Oberseite der Schachtel und das Heft zeigen das gleiche Bild. Ein schachbrettartiges Muster aus Gelben Quadraten. Der Titel ist in groß "speech/synthesis" und kleiner darunter "An Experiment in Electronic Speech Production" auf einem weißen Band. Darunter ein Schwarz/Weis Bild einer Wellenform. Rechts oben steht "Bell System Scientific Experiment No. 3", am unteren Rand "Made Available by Your Telephone Company". Die Rückseite der Schachtel zeigt einen Schaltplan. Sie ist dafür gedacht die Schaltung dort aufzubauen. Dafür sind Löcher für Befestigungen ausgestanzt.

Terminal Music Biz By Kenneth Newby Rob Lord and Jeff Patterson are two Santa Cruz netsurfer dudes. Their median age is 21. When they were turned down for a job beta testing the Newton—too computer proficient—they enlisted the help of Jon Luini (sys admin at Hal. Computer Systems Inc) and started the Internet Underground Music Archive instead. IUMA is a kind of digital club where the bands play for free, there's no cover charge, and the owners are just happy that you came. Accessing the World Wide Web (WWW) database, they upload digital sound files, images, and text to let you, using the cutting edge Mosaic interface, listen to music you won't find in the record stores. M2: What was your motivation for getting into this? IUMA: Because it was possible. And because the bands we like don't make it through the corporate filter. But we've got more to offer the music industry than it need be afraid of. We don't want to kill the music industry. The effect we want to have is evolution. M2: We foresee Internet labels. Do you harbor that ambition? IUMA: The reason we're so good is because we're not into the sort of exploitation that record companies may be into. We see a whole different sort of industry coming up. We don't want to charge the bands because they're the ones who don't really have the money to do it. And we don't want to charge people for use of our site, because the whole concept of netiquette forbids that. We're just trying to give back what we can to the Net. Better than that, people will turn into online reviewers, and if you don't like their review you can move on to somebody else. And anyone can be one of those reviewers. There's a public review place right on the site, you can go in and trade comments about the bands, and comments can also be sent directly back to the artists. M2: How did you get involved with WWW? IUMA: We found it while net-surfing. When I found out, it was just as important as MPEG audio compression. IUMA: Before we just had an FTP site, it was very unpretty. With the Web and Mosaic, and HTML formatting and online images and hypertext links and all that, it provided almost a record store front for the IUMA that anyone could use by just clicking. M2: As this kind of service develops on the Net, how do you foresee handling the congestion it will create with the large amounts of data being transfered? IUMA: Fibersphere in 95! Maybe Gore's NII (National Information Infrastructure) bill, MCI's info-highway plan, PacBell's optical fiber plan and others to come will open new bandwidth. M2: What sort of compression are you using? What kind of sampling rate? IUMA: We're going at 44.1 kHz, 16 bit, stereo. With MPEG compression we compress it at about 10:1 right now, so a 50 meg file comes down to a 5 megs or under, and without much loss of quality. It's a model compression—it cuts out information that your ear wouldn't normally hear. Right now it's just one song per band. If you havea 14.4 modem, a 3 minute song will download in a little under 30 minutes. That's why we're putting up smaller samples of songs. You can download a sample of a song in like 2 minutes. For these, we’re putting up shtty dot AU files. These are 15 seconds of low fidelity 8 bit, 11 kHz, mono audio. We've found that if they play into a genre well, that's about what you need. And they're small enough to get a taste. If you have an Ethernet connection, depending on where you are, you can probably get a song in less time that it takes to listen to it. With 28.8 modems it'll be half the time, even a little better than that. They do about 3500 characters per second, as opposed to 14.4's, which do about 1600. M2: When you have Ethernet, you should be able to do conversion on the fly and give live concerts. IUMA: That's what we're hoping for. Using the UNIX MPEG audio player, you can have it piped right in. M2: So is this system similar to the one being used on the Sony Mini Disc?

#Multimedia war DIE Hype der 90er. 1996 erstellte Inverse für DC eine Reihe von 'Büchern'. Geschichten aus den 60ern, jetzt aber mit jedem Bild vertont, einige mit Animationen und zusätzlichen Hinweisen versehen.

Vorder und Rückseite der CD Verpackung im Design eines DC Comics aus den 60ern. Vorne Ist Batman sowie Pinguin, Riddler und Joker zu sehen. Darüber der Titel "BATMAN - Partners in Peril". Auf der Rückseite derden die Vorzüge der Multimediaausgabe wie Ton, Animation und Versteckte Hinweise beworben.

Mal ehrlich, eine Brettspielversion eines Automatenspiels zu machen ist wohl die ultimative Rückportierung. Soviel Retro auf einmal kann ein FPGA Nachbau nie sein :))

Endlosbandkassette für einen Olivetti MLU600 Speicher. Band, Lesekopf und Transportmechanik als eine verkapselte Einheit. Das Laufwerk funktionierte an allen Geräten mit Olivetti Standard Interface (IPSO).

I just published a new version of the People over Parking Act map that includes a bunch of cities that will have parking mandates removed around transit.

It was kind of complex to implement the statute using gtfs, would definitely appreciate some peer review!

One of the most interesting things at this con was the mix of people. Typically, a developers’ conference is almost entirely male computer engineers. Not only were more women in attendance than in the past, there were also many people who knew more about content and potential solutions

An unserem 5150 PC hängt nicht IBM's '83-Key' Tastatur, sondern ein Luxus-Exemplar mit kleinen 14x8 LCD in jeder Taste. Diese zeigen, in Echtzeit und abhängig von Shift/Ctrl/Alt, das jeweils aktuelle Zeichen an.

Zu sehen ist ein Ausschnitt einer PC Tastatur mit den 10 Funktionstasten links sowie dem Alphanumerischen Feld rechts daneben. in jeder Taste ist ein kleines Fenster mit einem s/w LCD, dass mit eher schlechtem Kontrast die aktuelle Tastenbelegung zeigt. Also z.B. ein großes 'A' mit Shift, ein Kleines ohne.

🎅Türchen 19: #Fairchild LED Uhr🖥️

In den 70ern waren LED Uhren der allerletzte Schrei. Auch Luxusmarken müssten da mit. Fairchild belieferte nicht nur viele Hersteller mit Modulen, sondern verkaufte auch Uhren unter eigenem Namen, so wie unser Exemplar von 1975.
Auf einem beigen Teppich liegt eine Uhr mit silberfarbenen Metallarmband mit großen Gliedern ohne sichtbare Gelenke. Das Glas ist Rot gefärbt. An der Seite sind zwei Knöpfe die zur Anzeige gleichzeitig gedrückt werden mussten, um so unbeabsichtigte Bedienung und Stromverbrauch zu verhindern.

ports on the back of a Silicon Graphics Indy workstation, there's 24 ports in total for various devices from simple mice and printers to video in and out, 3D glasses, networking and more

Schulwandbilder waren gut 200 Jahre lang in allen Fächern präsent. Auch in der ab den 1970ern aufkommenden Informatik. Dieses Exemplar aus den 90ern(!) zeigt Programmstrukturen als Ablaufplan und Struktogramm.

Eine Tafel, die aufgerollt werden kann, trägt die Überschrift "Grundstrukturen für die Programmierung eines Computers". Darunter werden in der oberen Hälfte eine Aufgabenstellung ("Handhabung eines Fahrkartenautomaten") und die Umsetzung als Programmlaufplan dargestellt. Die Umsetzung als Struktogramm ist offen. In der unteren Hälfte werden Programmstrukturen in "Gegenüberstellung von Programmlaufplan und Struktogramm" gezeigt. Dies umfasst Folgestruktur, zwei Varianten der Wiederholungsstruktur sowie 3 Varianten der Verzweigung. Rechts oben befindet sich das Logo des Herstellers Steinberger aus Ingolstadt.

Der Supercharger war ein PC-Subsystem für den Atari ST. Ein kompletter 8 MHz NEC V20 Rechner mit 1 MB RAM als MS-DOS Co-Prozessor zur 68000. Entwickelt von Beta Systems in Mannheim, gefertigt von Siemens.
