Very informative thread on how to mobilize the necessary money for supporting Ukraine without relying on unanimity and without creating more debt for Ukraine or other European states by @lucasguttenberg.bsky.social 👇
Is Germany again dragging its feet and undermining a "simple" solution to the Ukraine financing problem, instead pushing the ubercomplex reparations loan?

It's a tempting eurocrisis reflex that if only there were a will in Berlin, there would be a better way.

But there isn't. Here is why:

Trump wants a deal for headlines. Ukraine wants actual protection. The U.S. is dangling "Article 5-like" security guarantees at Ukraine, but only temporarily, while pushing Kyiv to accept a rushed deal that may leave core issues unresolved.

"...and there is barely a mention of the remarkably sophisticated, extensive cyber attacks that have burrowed deeply into American telecommunications and utility systems and stayed there, despite years of efforts to oust them."

The freeing of Russian and Belarusian political prisoners is certainly very welcome. Yet, their rescue in exchange for the release of Russia's foreign agents and a lifting of sanctions against Belarus's regime generates perverse incentive structures for Putin and Lukashenka.
