But this misses out the best part of this mosaic! To the left of Odysseus' ship is a smaller boat with a man holding what looks suspiciously like a gigantic prawn. This man is likely to be the homeowner who commissioned the mosaic.

I make a point here which is central to my understanding of urbanism: the way "small towns" think of what they are today is at odds with their own history, and for all of our legacy settlements - towns and cities - urbanism is a restoration. thedeletedscenes.substack.com/p/rowhouse-o...

Good. I'm making my claim.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The “correct” map

The Mercator map creates distortions. Just like the Peters map and any map with any projection on a plane. This is the story of the correct map, the map that does not exist.

Bally's Defender! Wait, is that right...?

Yep! This early take on the mounted light gun cabinet fed off of American patriotism in the lead up to full-scale involvement.

Though it was not unusual to have women featured on coin-op flyers, this one is notable for having her actually playing the game.

Really good point. Editing isn't just improving a text; it's improving a text *with reference to the reader's needs and the writer's intentions*. But when there are no writer's intentions...
Was asked to edit a rough draft written by ChatGPT today. Hated it. Editing it felt hollow. There's no perspective to deepen and inquire about. It's fucking drivel blended up by an energy suck machine that takes from stolen, uncredited work.

Anyway, I did my best. #AmEditing

“We wanted to rid ourselves of the fashions of historiography,” Burns summarized at one event, “and make a film that simply shows what happened.”

That’s not how history works though. You’re making an argument about what happened & what mattered even if you don’t realize you’re doing it. 🗃️

The penny arcade was dead.

The game fad of the first decade of the 20th century faded and the coin-op industry retracted.

In 1931, a reinvention of the arcade emerged and caught the new wave of pinball.

This is the story of Chester-Pollard and the Sportlands.
