There’s no sugarcoating how rough this year has been, and how hopeless it has felt at times for all of us - politically, economically, socially, all those facets. It’s been difficult to keep it together as I see so much struggling in the world and so much that’s keeping America together is being rapidly unraveled. In a way, the sheer impact of all that’s gone down and the continued struggles from years past has caused me to rethink certain ways I’ve gone about my life. As great and fun as it was to put together the one video essay, I never have the energy to go with another, hence why nothing else has come on the channel since. And seeing my established online presence be in this state gave me concern that I haven’t been productive enough. But looking back, I’ve accomplished a lot this year. I’ve continued to diversify my media palette with many more live-action films and bad films in the mix, and I intend to continue with those and add more classic movies to the pile next year. In addition, I’ve casually experimented with script-writing and even began to draw for myself after a decade of not touching my sketchbook… nothing tangible enough to show right now, but it’s still nice to personally try out. More importantly, I’ve managed to finally cut some of the key aspects of social media that’s been holding my life and mentality back; cutting off both Twitter and Meta for good, and later on limiting even my BlueSky. Doing so has made me much more aware of how mentally destructive it actually has been all this time, even when I need to empathize and help, and how much it’s gotten in the way from simply indulging in what I enjoy in fear of discourse. Partly as a result of that weight being alleviated, I’ve gotten myself more out there than I ever have before, attending protest rallies, animation festivals, and even traveling to LA for the first time. Cliche as it is to say, I’ve rarely felt as alive as I did in thise moments. My life may still be all over the place, but I think as we in America have to weather the storm and firmly stand up for what is right when everything is stacked against us, it’s all the more important to nail down what truly gives us peace and comfort so we can be all the more prepped for the battle ahead. Here’s to a 2026 full of healing and taking back what’s rightfully ours.
