Putin's war machine runs on oil exports, which fuel his economy. The goal of the EU must be to disrupt this money machine. The EU has all the means to do this. It can sanction - even without the US - shadow fleet oil tankers in the Baltic. That will push down Urals oil price and hurt Russia...

His track record speaks for itself. While we continue to resist, we should take comfort in that he is deeply incompetent, not very bright & his policies are hurting even his most devoted supporters. Let's not get in the way of his inevitable self-destruction.

Firings are happening right now at the National Science Foundation. Essential staff are being cut.

This isn’t about the budget. If it was, they’d be going after the military (17%) or state appropriations (38%). NSF is 0.7% of the federal budget. All federal employees make up only 4% of the budget.

Reliable European countries should set up a defence fund using frozen Russian assets and to which each would contribute a percentage of their GDP. NATO-like command could use these funds to buy compatible military hardware, large volumes of ammunition and Cutting edge logistics.

Reliable European countries need (1) to form a military command centre either within or alongside NATO. (2) put their economies on a “preparation for war” footing and (3) contribute to a central fund that allows the few European countries with military capabilities to buy compatible equipment etc

When social media exposes traditional media’s deceit, it’s time for independent journalists to investigate why the press is backing a president who undermines free press—and is it coordinated?

Totally agree with @robertshrimsley.bsky.social here - as long as 'constant signalling' isn't, as it was all too often for Johnson and frequently is for Trump', largely performative rather than the savvy communication of something more substantive. (Source: www.ft.com/content/6b68...)

This will disrupt innovative new Alzheimer's work to go beyond the "amyloid hypothesis." Bad news for anyone who's been touched by this disease. 🧪

I sincerely don’t know why people aren’t physically stopping those dorks. Move shit. Lock doors. Lose the keys. Everyone switch seats. Turn off all the lights. Switch the signs on the elevator lobby. Make the settings all silly. Use a different language. Wear costumes. Fill rooms with balloons

Mr Trump is certain to over-reach. So sad current right-wingers don’t campaign or govern without telling such easily verifiable lies. The voters seem ready to move to the right but they need honest, uncorrupted leaders if their electorate is to stay with them. Snatched victories are unsustainable.
