Sea surface temperatures are warming across the entire periphery of the #Arctic Ocean in September.

This is especially observed in areas with long-term declines in sea ice concentration, such around the Chukchi and Kara Seas.

Incredible.

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii.

@noaa.gov had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

A country that does not value the education of its people, is not a serious contender on the world stage.
Trump is weighing big cuts to the U.S. Education Department
While only Congress can shutter the department, the president is reportedly considering executive action to severely scale back its responsibilities and staffing.

It’s also an amazing reminder that our natural world is being threatened by Climate Change and Capitalism! There’s work to do…

An interesting concept for how climates could shift in the US, and ultimately, where humans will migrate.

Here, we’ll interpret this for Wall Street:

Compounding interest is earned on both the initial principal amount and the interest accumulated in previous periods.

Compounding catastrophe is earned on both the initial disaster and the disaster accumulated in previous periods.

NEW: 2024 has just been confirmed as the warmest year on record, and the first to breach the 1.5C threshold.

We used a ridgeline (Joy Division inspired) chart to visualise daily temperature anomalies since 1940.

2024 clearly stands out with 100% of its days above 1.3C and 75% above 1.5C.

With the Palisade, Eaton, and Hurst fires still burning and 0% containment, the amount of devastation is increasing by the minute. A disaster that is no doubt a result of a warming climate, decreasing rainfall, and a longer fire season. ⚒️

A trend that is guaranteed to continue. Even if we halted all emissions now, the residence time of green house gasses would still deliver climbing global temperatures for decades to come.
As Makiko Sato has noted, “Meteorological year (December to November) 2024 was the warmest since reliable records started in 1880”
