This ICJ ruling is one of those magic moments when i am reminded there are still sane grown ups around. @theelders.bsky.social response confirms it.

"The big emitters are on notice". They are liable to litigation if they are not investing in the transition.
Today, the world’s highest court, the International Court of Justice, puts big emitters on notice.

Countries are bound by international law to protect people from the impacts of climate change, and governments must ramp up their efforts to transition away from fossil fuels.

Good news Friday - China’s emissions declined over more than a year. Is this them passing peak emissions?

Exciting stuff @laurimyllyvirta.bsky.social
NEW from me: China's CO2 emissions fell ~1.6% in the first quarter and have now been flat or down for more than a year. This is the first time on record that emissions are falling due to clean energy growth, not slow power demand.
NEW – Analysis: Clean energy just put China’s CO2 emissions into reverse for first time | @laurimyllyvirta.bsky.social
