From this linked post, it's the 3rd link down on the list of posts to some recent astronomy & orbital mechanics threads I've written.

It'll be interesting to watch the #Artemis mission, now I've got a basic grasp of orbital mechanics physics, & it's not easy to understand!

I'm assuming #Artemis #artemis2 Artemis II, will be doing a trans-lunar injection manoeuvre for the #Moon flyby.

In this thread I wrote, I cover some orbital mechanics Apollo 8 did.

Since, I appreciate how difficult #space exploration really is.

Next post to this, links to more orbital mechanics.

I actually like Brutalism style architecture. On the other platform a while ago, I've posted a few times that I like Frank Lloyd Wright's work & that this interior would look great (2nd pic)if the rock was from the #Moon! I like the geometric space-age style he did that incorporated nature & scenery

I'm not able to go to the European Astronomy Festival #Astrofest again.

I can't afford the journey & accommodation & if going by train on my own, it's not safe. My car is so old, it's only best used locally now.

So, I still haven't been to (nor at the main Astrofest) in London yet.

Hope to 1 day.

My interest in science started at age 6 in 1976, but I've written since the age of 16.

I combined science with writing when my website went live December 1999.

Around 2002, I contributed to a paper & a book both written by a maths & stats PhD scientist.

I've been an amateur science writer since.

It was the mid 70s but it shaped my perception of science early...
I know it's early days here, but do any of my followers have science books/mags from when you were young? As it'd be great to know about what they are as at moment, I'm not finding ppl who have them since yrs I mentioned in this thread. I was born in 1969 so got my 1st science book in 1976 at age 6.

Have a go at this...
#Astronomy Scale & Size Guide

(Screenshot shows each pg in reverse, so start bottom right)

Aim:

To understand the scale of our local solar system

Objectives:

By using objects that are easy to find, demonstrate a representation of the Sun, Earth & Moon that provides a practical & interactive -

I'll be collecting more threads I've written to put in a 2nd pg here soon. The set before this post were just a few I wrote that are general astronomy & orbital mechanics based(I've written about different subjects over the yrs),so there'll be more to + in this thread, as a collection as time goes on

Poss various factors:culture, internet & education. Latter has significance due to lack of science teachers & funding then link to teacher's real influence (not TikTok, Instagram type) that impacts perception of science & decisions about its prospects(my thread to twitter only)

It's very sad news that Dr Allan Chapman has passed away. I met him & had a chat in person, after an astronomy meal in Lancashire, where he gave talks there every yr & I later wrote about it on my website. He was an excellent astronomy & science historian who delivered his knowledge with passion.

I wish I lived in the country...

Some twinkling #stars from my garden (it's not a steady atmosphere but it's clear tonight) for #astronomy

Wow!

I've just seen this article about physicist Richard Feynman where he's quoted as saying:

‘I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong’

& link (other platform) to my post on him that used same pic as the article

If you're interested in #mathematicalphysics mathematical physics, here's a short thread (it's in screenshots too) I wrote about a Professor called Sir Roger Penrose & his 2 books I've had for many yrs.

He's my favourite scientist. I wanted to explore his thinking & methodology.
I've 2 books by this superb thinker. On the other platform, I wrote a general thread about his theories (in screenshot) refering to those 2 books. Professor Roger Penrose, is my favourite scientist. His theories are a good balance of mathematicalphysics science & creativity.

Looking forward. It's a field that I understand and fail to understand at the same time... 🙈

Kudos to Dr Stokes who delivered the quantum physics module at Manchester Polytechnic when I studied there. He said the challenge of quantum physics was not understanding it...it was believing it... 🙊

Prhoub thoughts s

This post t's a reminder to (ahem), remind myself to either write a prototype (on my notepad) or to pull up a post from a thread I wrote yrs ago on electromagnetism & write about why I thought it was a profound thought & then link it to a reply I've just read!
January 18, 2026 at 7:16 AM
Amongst all subjects I've written about over the yrs & pondered over on my website, Twitter & more recently here too (I started copying threads from there to here months ago) as satellite platforms, I'm going to get into the subject of #quantum computers again.

I 1st studied this subject yrs ago...

If anyone read my chat with Mike today (see link below), please follow him! And there's a very good reason -

He's a physics Professor & superb astrophotographer (add in furniture maker!).

Hey Mike, thanks for your chat today... it made me think (rare event 🤔 ☺️).

It's also good to be #inspired...
It's passed that test multiple times... 😁 I did not consider dynamic stability when designing it though, and when he leaps off it sometimes the table goes flying the other way (conservation of momentum!) 😂. The cupboard doors look fun - I guess the complexity is in the getting the movement right

I love photos & videos of mist! These are really beautiful. If anyone captures similar ones to these & videos of it too, please send them to me here or copy me in your post. I think it's magical to watch mist float above the land in the countryside & so relaxing & very ethereal

Well done to #Crew11 #Roscosmos & cosmonaut Oleg Platonov & #NASA @nasawatch.bsky.social astronauts Mike Fincke, Zena Cardman & #JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui of the #SpaceX @nasaspaceflight.com #Dragon spacecraft for splashing down safely off the coast of California just now. What a feat & hope all ok.
Hoping the SpaceX Crew-11 from the ISS have a safe return.
