The idea that everybody on the planet must forever be beholden to the default of babysitter of other people’s children except for their actual fucking parents, and as a result any attempt to opt of non-consensual babysitting must include getting my identity stolen, is an idea that must fucking die.

reminder discord did the ID verification stuff before in my hellhole of a country and immediately had 70,000 IDs get stolen, can’t change those like a password, now those people have to enjoy their ID being compromised for the rest of their lives!

I really wish we had a well funded, power critical fourth estate interested in investigating the source of this clearly coordinated effort by payment processors.
Like, we keep seeing the impact of it, but I really want to know the "who" and the "why" beyond nebulous surveillance/puritanism forces.
