Is this particularly surprising?? We live in a society where the government and community continues to devalue the role of the GP within our health system. As much as I try to make general practice look and feel appealing to my medical students, the issues and bartiers we face are clear.
Fewer than 10% of final-year medical students want to be GPs as a first choice
General practice and rural generalism combined ranked second, behind internal medicine.

Save this post for posterity when the inevitable happens in Australia, where the government never learns from the mistakes of others.
1/ 🚨 The UK introduced Physician Associates (PAs) as a response to the healthcare workforce crisis. But the journey has been contentious, with lessons for other countries considering similar measures. A 🧵 on the findings from our new paper with Louella Vaughan and Giuliano Russo

A harbinger of things to come if the Australian Labor government continues its path on turning Medicare in General Practice into the NHS.

It's starting to warm up here in Adelaide.

Serving as a reminder to ensure putting on SPF 50 before leaving the house.

If there's one thing I tell my patients I wish I did when I was growing up, was using more sunscreen.

Not only do you protect against cancer, but you look younger for longer!

New study from Australia: A blood-based mRNA signature distinguishes people with Long Covid from recovered individuals.

The potential to become valid LC biomarkers is there. Small sample size is a caveat, as the authors acknowledge.

What a crock of s$&t this legislation is. Speaking as someone who inherently bypassed a lot of computer restrictions growing up as a teenager, I can guarantee this will not solve the issues relating to social media.

Teenagers are smart. They always find a way or they will use something else.
#BREAKING 🚨 The under-16s social media ban has passed the Senate – although it won’t take effect for at least 12 months

The entire crossbench, as well as two Coalition senators, voted against the bill, with the final vote standing at 34 to 19

Someone called this mass exodus from Twitter ‘the fall of the Broman Empire’ and I died laughing. 💀

Something I forgot was even a thing back in the Twitter days that suddenly is back thanks to bluesky is media that can be played in-app without rerouting to an external browser!

I forgot how great it was to be able to watch embedded YouTube videos without having to leave the app!

As GPs we are very familiar with supporting our patients when demands tip them into crisis

Sadly many GPs find themselves in this position, with increasing demands, little support & failure of leadership to listen & provide what’s needed

How many more leaving will it take?

Many patients ask me why I'm still wearing masks whilst consulting.

This is precisely why.

I cannot afford to get COVID over and over again when I see on average 28-30 patients a day in a room with very average ventilation.
Wondering why so many people have mycoplasma (aka walking pneumonia) lately? Here’s a clue.

Just published: after propensity matching, those w/ prior #COVID19 infection were about 3x more likely to get mycoplasma than those without #COVID: www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

A stark reminder for our local politicians that following in the footsteps of the UK is not always the best option.

Ultimately it’s the patient that suffer.

Can’t get an appt with a GP?

Yet there are 1000s of GPs out of work or struggling to find work
NHS England have cut the equivalent of 2 full-time GPs in funding from an average practice, whilst funding ‘additional’ roles via ARRS

£2bn cut in real term

Not additional then🤷🏻‍♂️ youtu.be/tI69wqP1_3g?...
Over 80% of locum GPs in England are struggling to find work

The true plandemic will begin in 2025 in the US, and I’m sad to say I’m glad to be a spectator and not a participant.

So simple yet so useful
Fun fact: If someone quotes a post of yours in a way that is unwelcome (as is commonplace on Twitter/X) there is a tool to combat the unwanted attention. Simply click the three dot menu on the quote post & click "Detach quote". This removes your post from their quote post. Useful to know, do share!

This is huge, media outlets transitioning away from X (formerly twitter).

Every day that goes by will turn that website into one big right wing echo chamber. Shame!

Thoughts go out to my American colleagues who have to endure this shitstorm.

Serves as a reminder that we as doctors and healthcare professionals need to stay vigilant and continue advocating for our patients.
PSA: If you’ve been considering an IUD or implant for contraception, or if you’ve got one in place that’s close to the end of its lifespan, now is a good time to get one (or get yours replaced).

A repeal of the ACA could mean a significant increase in the price of these methods.

Do my eyes deceive me? Is this truly a space where medicos can communicate without having a rabid conspiracy theorist jumping down your throat?

Let's see if #medsky and #gpsky can fill the void!
