From Patrick McKenzie, a shoutout to @dsquareddigest.bsky.social . This passage made me think about Michael Saylor's SEC settlement for fraud in 2000.

As ICE terrorizes communities, crypto executives who spent years posting about freedom have gone conspicuously silent. But behind the scenes, they’ve contributed at least $315 million — more than double their record 2024 spending — to elect more lawmakers to enable this administration.

Midterms plan:
1. Stimmies, Fed rate cuts, and neo-Maoist dirigisme
2. Declare Georgia for Trump after FBI finds untied shoelace on official in 2020 recount
3. ICE+CBP to polls, FBI after any close result that goes blue
4. Step 3 not required in ~half the country anyway

@sjwrenlewis.bsky.social puts high likelihood on US constitutional breach in 2028/9 (if not 2026, for me). Normalcy bias means US elites still fail to prepare/respond to authoritarian takeover. Anyone saying he won't try is absurd. He already has!

Terms have no expiry for Donald as chairman. Why would it at the very least not pass to next US pres? He's going to try to steal or do a putin-style VP move in 2028.

Blair, whatever your intentions the stink probably won't come off from this. Hope you can achieve something good in exchange.
1/Board of Peace is not about peace through cooperation but peace through dominance and extraction. Clear effort to replace rules-based international order with a structure that bolsters Trump and his effort to create a neo-royalist system.

The Greenland deal is like the Canada border fentanyl deal. It starts with a tale told by an idiot, then a bunch of sound and fury, and finally, after a market puke, a climbdown that lets donald declare victory while the ally does what it was already doing.
The most consistent them in Trump's second term has been that every time he leans into his tariff agenda, markets tank, and every time he backs off, they rise. And here's the latest round of uppy-downy to prove the point.

Markets clearly believe that Trump's tariff agenda hurts American businesses.

Here's an interesting thesis in the 'we used to make things' camp from a somewhat doomer POV. In his other writing he gives the current US admin too much strategic credit for policies that have not yet paid off in this world model, [1/2] substack.com/@ctindale/p-...

New, from me: The Trump administration isn’t just using social media to shape a narrative. They view the world through a social media lens in a way that is plausibly corrupting their judgment and undermining their performance.

I wonder if anyone involved in the stablecoin and tokenisation frenzy is thinking long term about how blockchains work. Basic stuff like the trilemma, finality, tx fees, u name it.

Look hard enough at the technical tradeoffs & it does start to feel like the only innovation is regulatory arbitrage.
