The U.S. is not a represenative democracy. An overwhelming majority of voters want Mediare for All, AI regulation, and for an end to the Israeli genocide in Gaza. Yet these positions are not only not taken up by our so-called represenatives: they are not even debated.
There’s a funny Politico story showing that the latest polling on AI shows 80-20 in favor of heavy regulations, an absolute slam dunk platform, but Dems are worried about not winning back mask-off tech CEO donors

Los Angeles was surrounded by a hurricane of fire to begin this year and it feels like most adults won’t entertain the idea that they maybe should try to drive less.
Ocean heating defies all earlier projections. We are on the worst possible track. Yet this has completely vanished as a topic of conversation in America.

The 53 year old loser with “humanist” and “anarchist” in their bio who invades a thread to troll someone grieving a death on the day after Christmas is a perfect example of why I don’t label my politics here

You could abolish ice today and the injustice they have released would still echo for generations
Whoever promises to make sure these chuds spend the rest of their lives in camps eating cat food gets my vote, I don’t care about the odds
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

We are supposed to take stock of what we have survived and overcome. And of course what we have lost and gained. A lot can be lost and gained in a year!
It’s okay not to note or qualify that a “year” isn’t a self contained unit and that nothing begins or ends when reflecting. Reflection is normal, dividing time in our minds is normal, and a calendar year is a good interval for reflection, so just post that shit, it’s good for you.

It's my first Christmas without Mom. Of course it's bringing up feelings. Mostly, I'm reminded of how I chose to be a different kind of mom.
If you need a mom-type person today, here's what I try to give my kid. I give it to you today too. Apply as needed:
