I'm impressed with this chap - Mark Fairhurst. Keeps calm, answers the question and highlights the real issues. Now, will the Govt take the advice given baby him to protect the prison officers, or will they still be chasing Reform votes?
Prison Officers' Association chair Mark Fairhurst tells Jackie Long one of his members has been "unjustly singled out" for the mistaken release of Hadush Kebatu, and the full inquiry will find out who is at fault.

The Chair of the Prison Officers’ Association, Mark Fairhurst told Channel 4 News that officers were “devastated” over the error that led to asylum seeker and convicted sex offender Hadush Kebatu bein...

Nothing on the BBC Radio news this morning. Nothing I could find on their website. This is an MP from the party whose lead in the opinion polls normally ensures them wall-to-wall coverage. She spouts racist nonsense for which even she feels obliged to apologise. What on earth are they playing at?

We have an independent judiciary in this country. Robert Jenrick wants puppet judges.

The Conservative Party once believed in the rule of law and our shared British values - no longer.

Agreed, no one is surprised. What a shame, though. He has written some superb books, which I have recommended to many.
"We have a debt crisis so I've joined the party that was in power for 14 years and under whom debt massively grew."

"Commentator of the Year"
No-one is surprised, Matthew. Absolutely no-one.

Very sad news
Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.

His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.

But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

We will miss him terribly.

A supreme example of ultra crepidation - thank you @susiedent.com
Trump at the UN:

"I look at London where you have a terrible mayor... Now they want to go to Sharia law."

This is entirely false. London Mayor Sadiq Khan is politically moderate and has never ever called for Sharia law.

This is Islamophobic propaganda and a bigoted attack on Khan.

If only the other party leaders had the courage to speak truth to power like this man, we'd undergo a period of turmoil, but we would eventually silence the bully and be stronger as a result.

Agree completely. How much I've missed SMH over the Summer. If you haven't caught up with this yet - IMO, the best thing on the radio atm - and that's even when "The News Quiz" is currently on. Stewart Lee on next week, too.
So good to have this series back again with Armando Iannucci and guest co-host, Ria Lina & so on the money about where we are at politically in the UK: Strong Message Here, Phase 2 buff.ly/i0E3gLa #UKPolitics

My thoughts exactly. Starmer should be using the State Visit to tell Trump a few "home truths" (and then resign if he has to); not spend any more on security than he would for any other visiting head of state; expose Trump to the protests against him. I am sure none of these will happen.
My dad told me: "You don't learn anything the second time you get kicked by a horse"

Peter Mandelson has been sacked for the third time.

Isn't it time politicians learned the risks of chumming around with a bunch of squalid billionaires?

Russell-Cotes is always worth a visit.
We had a very lovely unexpected visit to The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum that included postcards, tea and cake, being serenaded on a Grand piano and a little postage stamp in the cabinets especially for Art Stamped’s museum mission! ☺️🌋🎹✉️🔎

It is very nearly the tenth anniversary of that brief moment when, for 2 or 3 days, British newspapers remembered refugees are desperate human beings who need our help, rather than scum that it's okay to threaten with violence.
