Great picture
If anything is clear from the last few days, it's surely that Ukraine belongs in the EU

Important counterpoints that need to be added to the overall relief that the AfD didn't win more than expected in Germany tonight. (A relief I share, but Tanja is right nonetheless.)
I know we all love a dose of hopium, especially now. But the take, which I see all across here, that the far right was defeated in Germany tonight because 80% of Germans voted for other parties is very misleading and unhelpful. Understanding this really matters. 🧵

And one more thing: Even if the AfD comes in around 20% in the end. This also means 4/5 of German voters did not vote for them. Just saying.

You don’t see a 0% very often in polling - Brexit’s appeal, always narrow, has not expanded an inch (or a centimetre). And people who supported it at the time are mostly of the view that it made no difference. Few major political projects have failed so abjectly to become a settled consensus…
What impact has Brexit had on yourself personally?

All Britons
Positive: 8%
Negative: 45%
No impact: 38%

Leave voters
Positive: 17%
Negative: 19%
No impact: 57%

Remain voters
Positive: 0%
Negative: 74%
No impact: 22%

Beware the Brexit reset backlash. New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. With the reset barely begun, the Brexiters' vicious backlash against it is gathering force. But the reset has good justification (& those dismissing it as trivial should beware):

Musk is a very dangerous man

Musk, a close adviser to Donald Trump, on Friday retweeted a video by a German rightwing activist, adding: “Only the AfD can save Germany.” Alice Weidel, the AfD’s leader, responded: “Yes! You are perfectly right.”

Probably not the great day for Brexit fans they'd have hoped from the headline. That large companies are less affected by Brexit barriers we know. Big question is whether over time they choose not to be in the UK at all - and there's plenty of evidence for that. www.ft.com/content/2a5e...

A new starter pack, reflecting the influx of new arrivals here. The 150 limit means that some who were in my previous pack have been bumped off (sorry - but the previous list is still available) & also that there's still no room some who messaged to ask to be included.

Post-Brexit Britain’s Trump problem goes much deeper than trade tariffs. New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. The discussion of how the UK might respond to Trump's tariffs is already confused, and anyway misses the bigger challenge they betoken:
