You gotta put down the ducky if you wanna play the saxophone

(honored to be quoted)
To atone this Yom Kippur, you must drop your lizard
(RNS) — The idea of dragging a scaly reptile into holy waters — a ridiculous image paired with a moral imperative — makes one wonder what their lizard might be. And how do you let it go?

Torah indicates over and over that it is a devastating thing to be the child of a prophet. I think it says something extraordinary about Isaac that he reached beyond Sarah’s paranoia to rectify a terrible wrong (that was done, after all, ostensibly for his benefit). I don’t know if midrash exists

I mean this sincerely—Malcolm X tried to tell us something deeper about violence in our society in November 1963, as did MLK when he spoke out against the Vietnam War at Riverside in 1967. And folks got mad at them for their analysis…

That's a good word for today.
"WERE YOU THERE WHEN ZEBRAS GOT MADE??? NO???

So why would you think you have any idea why any of this works, little stupid tiny squishy puny human???"

That's pretty much the whole biblical theology of suffering in a nutshell
The “why do bad things happen to good people” one is especially funny to me because there’s an entire book in the Tanakh dedicated to it, and it ends with: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ idk it’s a toughie

Wow. This one is going to stick in my brain for awhile.
I've become convinced that the hellfire preaching isn't just about the social control, it's that they know how many in their churches would believe in an eventual universal restoration of all things if they thought they could without divine punishment.

Hell means there are apologies you never get.

It’s my belief that we should pool our resources to support the most vulnerable among us. That’s all.

When you are feeling weary or despairing, remember that there are people in every corner of the world taking life affirming action in the direction of more justice. The fact that you can't see it all is a comfort because it means there is an excess of positive actions happening all at once. #onwards

The Bible commands us to set up cities of refuge--

to protect people who didn't mean to cause harm from those who wished to enact communal violence upon them.

The Rabbis ensured that due process happened there.

Never again is now.

Come learn the ancient wisdom we need desperately today:
cities of refuge
sanctuary

Call me crazy, but my idea of making America great involves a lot fewer kidnappings and concentration camps.

May every single human being on this planet be safe.

May every single person be protected from harm.

May we bring into being a time in which we are all free from those who do evil— together, speedily and in our days.

In several respects, Frankfurt’s [1986 On Bullshit] essay neatly describes the output of AI-enabled large language models. They are not concerned with truth because they have no conception of it. They operate by statistical correlation not empirical observation.
Generative AI models are skilled in the art of bullshit
Large language models are unconcerned with truth because they have no concept of it — and therein lies the danger

I opted to read and go to bed last night. If I'm following the stream correctly, we are talking about Reagan this morning because that is who the Democrat response held up as a good option?
This is why we aren't taken seriously. I swear. Why not just suggest openly we vote against ourselves?

I don't know of a better marching song. And it is my favorite protest song.
We need the arts. We need music that moves our bodies and images that challenge our minds and stories that help us imagine the way forward.
Go learn John browns body and hand out the sheet music at a marchs or your church etc get historic abolition music historic union and pro democracy music and aesthetic etc. we have the examples and pieces of something quite powerful in our collective history. We must Use them.

This is our house to clean up, siblings.
As the expected Christian Nationalism EO came in, I’m seeing a bunch of “this isn’t real Christianity” noise in my mentions.

Nope.
