Yesterday, Maurene Comey, who prosecuted the Epstein case, was summarily fired from SDNY. Her letter to colleagues pulls no punches. "Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought."

The gratuitous nature & careless instigation of this mass death may mark out the Trump regime as *the most evil in American history* — in a country that had the most brutal form of chattel slavery in world history, genocided its indigenous neighbors, & put its own Nisei ppl in concentration camps
The death toll from the Trump Administration’s foreign aid cuts could total more than the number of Jewish people killed in the Holocaust, Ukrainians killed in the Holodomor, and Cambodians killed in the genocide by the Khmer Rouge, combined.

USAID cuts could lead to 14 million deaths over the next five years, researchers say
An analysis published Monday in the medical journal The Lancet projects that cuts to the agency will lead to more deaths from diseases like AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.

The 35 richest Republican members of Congress have a net worth of $2.5 billion.

They stand to gain from the GOP budget's tax cuts that disproportionately help the rich.

Meanwhile, they're cutting Medicaid and food assistance for millions of their constituents.

NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years.

NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."

In the year after Dobbs, 210+ people faced criminal charges for pregnancy, pregnancy loss, or birth, while conditions for pregnant & postpartum people in the criminal legal system worsened. Pregnant people need HEALTHCARE not HANDCUFFS.

It's simple: law enforcement has no place in pregnancy.
Today marks 3 years since the fall of Roe v. Wade

Now, for most women on probation and parole, the ability to receive abortion care depends solely on getting *permission* to travel out of state from an officer

Access to basic health care should not be in the hands of officers

I cannot emphasize this enough that for YEARS:

-trans women played various women’s sports.

-trans kids got medical assistance as they and their parents needed.

-trans folk could get accurate documents.

-trans folk used the bathrooms that felt appropriate.

AND NOTHING BAD HAPPENED.

Michael Pham fled Vietnam at the age of 13. He was named bishop of San Diego a month ago.

Today, he stood watch at a courthouse: ICE agents were “standing there covered with masks as we walked toward the courtroom. Eventually the agents scattered and went away”

THIS JUST HAPPENED: Brad Lander walked through the fire, got burned, and came back with a fucking gasoline can.

ICE arrested him — now he’s escorting migrants right past them, again. Most politicians wouldn’t show up. He showed out.

Reflecting on the HUGE #NoKings turnout vs lackluster attendance at Trump’s parade & realizing this administration does not have the power we feared.

Because—and this is important—WE are choosing not to give it to them. The only power they have comes from us.

Don’t let them take your power.

Political scientist says: when millions protest, it’s not destabilizing — it’s democracy functioning.

Portraying peaceful dissent as a threat? That’s a hallmark of authoritarian-style governance.
The people know the difference.

Millions rally against authoritarianism, while the White House portrays protests as threats – a political scientist explains
Protests can serve two opposing purposes. They can represent a mass movement in favor of democracy – and simultaneously serve a nascent dictator in their efforts to undermine democracy.

Sadly, I can’t see that flying in the US because one party is overly invested in the performance of norms, and the other revels in breaking norms and laughing at the rubes that let them keep doing it.
In some countries, like the UK, there’s a (relatively recent) tradition of letting the party of any lawmaker killed in an act of political violence run unopposed in the by-election.

It lets people know violence cannot change the balance of power. It would be good for the US to do this.
