new from me today: not all data centers are created environmentally equal — and building them in states with cleaner grids and more access to water could go a long way in preventing environmental catastrophe
If the US Has to Build Data Centers, Here’s Where They Should Go
A new analysis tries to calculate the coming environmental footprint of AI in the US and finds that the ideal sites for data centers aren’t where they’re being built.

Beauties was funny! I’m looking forward to his new book. Also McNally Robinson is a great bookstore.
Gonna be a fun Friday night! Ez, Drew, and I will chat with @tsnjamesduthie.bsky.social at McNally Robinson on Grant at 7 PM about his new book Certified Beauties.

It’ll be like an in-person @illegalcurve.bsky.social Hockey Show broadcast.

#Alberta 38% of the people with measles and maybe 12-13% of the population in #Canada

Where politicians tell people to do their own research when it comes to vaccines. And there is no public health officer telling people proper info.

Also likely higher targets of disinformation campaigns.
Alberta's role in Canada's loss of measles elimination status embarrassing, former chief medical officer says

Alberta accounts for 38% of Canada's measles cases this year

It’s not the flex you think it is Alberta, herd immunity is tanking 😑

My book #Strongmen turns 5 today! The paperback edition, with a new epilogue on January 6, is now 4. The book built a large readership gradually and became a New York Times bestseller in Nov. 2024. Thank you to all who read it and share its warnings about what such leaders do to societies.

In the 2023 #Alberta Provincial election, with almost 60% voter turnout, 928,900 people voted for conservatives and 777,494 people voted for NDP.

It was the highest number/share of votes the NDP has ever won. There are more people who vote NDP than the seat count indicates and it will grow.

New Leger poll!

And it turns out the biggest loser in the teachers strike is the UCP!

What are the big takeaways?

- 47% of Albertans opposed the government tabling legislation to force teachers back to work, of that 35% strongly opposed it.

One of the first targeted disinformation campaigns was 2014ish, targeting Ukraine and it was vaccine disinformation. It proved the concept for Brexit, then 2016 US election. 11 years later Canada looses measles elimination status. Lucky we haven’t lost a democratic gov’t…yet. FB + YT are powerful.
