I published this essay today about the value of keeping democratic politics involved when questions of constitutional authority become relevant.
A Tale of Two Constitutions
What happens when two different visions of the Constitution go to bat against each other? Does it always end up before the Supreme Court?

The most literal definition of obeying in advance you could imagine. You must expect and foresee that SCOTUS will give sniveling decisions that give the President what he wants or you'll be very, very sorry.
Here's a fun little nugget from Trump's demand that DOJ pay him, personally, $250 million: In his memo, he argues that prosecutors "should have foreseen" that he has "immunity from prosecution for officials acts." Thank you John Roberts, great rule of law-ing, sir! static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

What does the flag mean?

The Preamble outlines six specific purposes for the Constitution, represented by the six vertical red and white stripes.

Woodrow Wilson had a fundamentally warped understanding of what democracy is, and he built his tyranny on that foundation. He believed that his version of social order was more important than democracy, and because of that, both were damaged.

The history of this being wrong stretches all the way back to the English Parliament in the 1600s. It's so wrong that Bessent should have to write a 15-page essay about how wrong it is and if it isn't sincere enough he should get an F and have to do it again.
Bessent: "No kings equals no paychecks"

Thiel: The antichrist is either Greta Thunberg...
me: yeah anyone Peter Thiel thinks is the antichrist is probably cool
Thiel: ...or Eliezer Yudkowski
me: sorry what
I couldn't believe this but it's true, Thiel can't decide whether the antichrist is Greta or Big Yud. Positively reeling.

This is exactly what we need. This is it.

"New York City Council member Chi Ossé, a close ally of Zohran Mamdani, is privately discussing a run against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)"
Scoop: Mamdani ally weighs challenging Hakeem Jeffries
Just talking about a potential campaign could drive a further wedge between Mamdani — the democratic socialist in line to be New York's next mayor — and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)

"We do not need to cover our eyes and pretend not to see what this logic leads to. It is not an accident that Republicans have over and over again blocked laws against child marriage...A core plank of Republican politics is that women exist to bear children for men."

the most telling thing about the complete tone dead nature of this article and the timing of its publication is this quote: "[Spinoza's] cancellation did not harm him economically"

predictable, given that in 2020 "what kind of president is Donald Trump" seemed to be a similarly difficult question
“When was Joe Biden president?” remains the most difficult question in politics
Who was the president in 2018 when you lost your show?

Who was the president in 2023 when you got your new show?

I think my barometer for whether the next democratic administration really knows what the game is will be whether they hire Josh Chafetz as an advisor
She could, for one thing, give speeches where she actually, directly confronts her colleagues. Call them out. Signal that this isn't normal.

Instead she issues O'Connor-like calls for civic education and criticizes *members of Congress* more than her own colleagues.
