Nice burns at Wilder Ranch State Park today! They did a great job building heat on this unit by lighting upper and lower slope to bring two flaming fronts together. Objectives include killing/limiting coyote brush and maintaining grasslands. #RxFire

Major heatwave to bring increased wildfire risk, and (finally!) a substantive monsoonal surge to California & Southwest - Weather West
August has been considerably warmer than July in most spots--and will likely end up above average statewide The latter portion of June and most of July was a notably cool summer period for much of California--contrary to both short- and medium-term expectations. This is a super complicated issue. If wildland FFs have to wear PPE, they probably can’t fight fire in the same way. Cutting line with PPE is probably not possible. 14day shifts are also maybe not possible. That would mean (1) big changes in strategy away from suppression and (2) much higher costs.

Thoughts from a climate scientist on what it means to exceed the 1.5°C global warming target
In 2015, global nations pledged to take actions to limit global warming to 1.5°C (2.7°F) above the pre-industrial baseline temperature in what has come to be known as the "Paris Agreement." In 2023 and 2024, global temperatures approached or even exceeded that warming target on a temporary basis--an
