It’s about time for me to come up with my language goals for 2025 (before I vanish into the ether and don’t keep up with them all year).

Focus languages: I’m upping them to 7 this year—Spanish, French, German, Dutch, and to a lesser extent Russian, Korean and Basque, which is brand new to me
Explain your user name:

Cenlyra is the single last remaining piece of a childhood fantasy story I tried to create. She was the main character, and I remember nothing about her except that her name, like the Bel- and Pol- names in the Belgariad, was a prefixed Cen- attached to the original Lyra.
1/3 Explain your user name:

This is a great opportunity for me to clarify. 🧵

The idea was never that I use “The Digital Global Citizen” to refer to *myself* as a name.

The digital global citizen is YOU. (& me).

Also, it’s an idea. A mindset. A way of life. Maybe a movement

Explain your username:

Mine is a mix of my favourite Catalonian village, Sant Pol, and my love for languages. Sant Pol + Polyglot = Santpolyglot! 🗺️ What’s the story behind your username? Let’s hear it!

And here it is

(please go easy on me, I haven't actually spoken with other people in any of these languages in years, if at all)

Any of you recall where I was talking about how I might maybe record myself speaking in my target languages so I’d have a baseline to judge against as the year goes by?

Well I did the thing.

Stand by for YT link—I’m still exporting the video file from editing/subtitling.

Might try this if I can pull together some time for it.
Before the first day is up, I want to give a shoutout to @quothalinguist.bsky.social and Conlang Year. If you missed it last year, you can jump in right now and start a new conlang this year! Just start with this entry and begin your #conlang journey. #language #linguistics

It let's you test your listening of snippets by native speakers and you can also get explanations of the individual words and grammar used

(It has Estonian!)

IPA: yes, since age 18
Least favorite thing about English: hard for me to find language exchange partners for it
Gave up on: Japanese (for now at least)
Useful where I live: which TL? Spanish, maybe. Dutch, probably not
😺
Spanish
Yes I have duo but I don’t depend on it entirely
Am from US so 🇺🇸

Good reminder for me and my plateaus
A thread of things I actually LOVE about being at the intermediate plateau level in a foreign language 🧵

Don’t know about primary, but I’ve finally pulled Twitter/X off page 1 of my phone apps and replaced it with Bluesky
Repost if BlueSky is now your primary social media site.

All language levels here are estimates; I’ve never actually been tested.

Studying:
Spanish (B1)
French (A2 bc listening and speaking are so far behind)
German (A2-B1)
Dutch (A2-B1)
And a few other dabbles but nothing above A1-ish

Spanish I started in school when I was 13 bc the school offered it
alright #langsky / #studysky, let's talk about your target language(s) 👀

★ what language(s) are you studying?
☆ what level are you? (A1-C2)
★ why did you choose this language(s)?
☆ how long have you been studying this language(s)?
★ what are your favorite resources for this language(s)?

@gernowrimo.bsky.social (sorry this is in English) I want you all to be aware NaNo is planning to close their forums entirely, including regional ones. You might want to look into finding somewhere else for your region to gather.
