Writer of speculative fiction to light dark corners. Builder of robust communities. Cultivator of niche obsessions.
I went on a nine-day storm-chasing trip with the College of DuPage meteorology program. I may have been bitten by the bug. Here's a little writeup about my experience.

Saw a tornado in western Nebraska today! While it was vortexing, I was too busy geeking out to get a photo, but I did snap this lighting from the same storm.

Beautiful storm chase in the west Texas panhandle yesterday. We saw a few tornadoes try to drop. They never got it done, but the clouds were beautiful and so are the mesa lands.

Stopped in Greensburg, KS at the memorial for the EF-5 that nearly destroyed the town in 2007.

On the way into town, we saw crumpled containers and overturned train cars from the EF-3 that just missed the town a few weeks ago.

It's maddening that after centuries of falsely claiming that women are too emotional to hold power, the two most powerful men in the US are definitively proving that claim wrong & some are still pushing misogyny by saying "The girls are fighting."
Give it up already. Men are fighting like always.

"Fire football", a football game with flaming ball, can be found in various regions in Indonesia as a popular game during Ramadan or Islamic New Year.

It has various meanings: an entertainment, a symbol of perseverance and fortitude, and a tool unite the community. 1/2

An absolute stunner of an Archaeopteryx fossil preserves SO MUCH soft tissue, including scales on its toe pads and a group of flight feathers never seen before in Archaeopteryx. Known as tertials, they lie between the elbow and the body, and play a key role in powered flight for modern birds 🧪
A rare Archaeopteryx fossil was kept from scientists for decades. Its first-ever analysis reveals how the ‘first bird’ took flight | CNN
Scientists were finally given access to a remarkable Archaeopteryx fossil that’s allowed them to better understand exactly how the earliest known bird could fly.

Sun's out, buns out. I met quite a few furry critters on my hike at Edgewood Preserve this morning. Unfortunately they got scared as I walked by. It's difficult to exist near rabbits without scaring them.

One of my favorite aspects of existence is how when you pay really close attention to almost anything, it unfurls out before you with complexity you never imagined.

My current fixation is tornadic supercells.
I hope you love something beautiful and meaningless. For me, it's football. I don't care what it is for you, but I wish you a deep love for something that means nothing until you give it meaning through your attention.
