As a DSP engineer it bugs me that upsampling images using a better approximation of the ideal LPF (rectangle in frequency domain) looks worse compared to a simple nearest neighbor (sinc in frequency domain). I guess human vision doesn't favor blurriness.

All of the C successors aside from Rust amount to nothing more than sugar to me. The persistent online fanfare and proselytization is puzzling. There are so many more interesting things to learn out there than some random person's idea of a nicer syntax for C.

What would be the best way to release/share a mixtape of my current favorite tracks?

Went through all my SoundCloud likes. All the music sounds new even though many of the tracks are like 12 years old. A lot of them deserve rereleases, or something. There's an impossible mountain of unlistened to good music.

Is Chrono Trigger actually the most epic game of all time or am I just biased? Everything that has come along since seems nowhere as good.

Kind of tempted to make a little game that mainly uses Mode 6. Never tried hi-res on SNES before.
Experimental post: Mode 7? What About Modes 1-6?
Some games on the SNES, such as Super Mario Kart, boasted "Mode 7" technology. However, this raises the question of what happened to the previous modes. This post explains them and gives examples of their usage in Mario games.

After repairing laptops for my family, I will never buy another laptop again. Even expensive ones are shoddily made. They are made to be trashed.

FPGA is cool but I suspect it's overused for low-level realtime applications because we lack a popular realtime software ecosystem. Especially for gaming. If Windows or Linux were proper RTOSes, FPGA retro consoles would be mostly pointless. That would be good for the environment

Microsoft has published no analysis on the potentially unusually large impact on ewaste volume that dropping support for Windows 10 next week would have. It seems they aren't actively taking responsibility there but it's obvious to me in this case that they should.

None of my TVs growing up had discernible scan lines. I'm confused why that's such a popular upscaling filter. If I wanted a nostalgic filter, I would go for something that looks like this. Do filters like this exist?

The delta-sigma ADCs have a reputation of being the most advanced but once you know basic signal processing and control theory, they're actually relatively simple devices. So simple that you can even implement one in Falstad.

This is one of those little details on which much of Fourier analysis is based that is probably not understood by most people using it.
