When this all ends, and it will, there can’t be any olive branches extended, especially for ICE. Accountability, punishment, defunding, and ridicule are the only things that need to be on the menu.

Nah, see that’s the gaslight. Greed didn’t just magically appear in the 80s your generation voted in Reagan, gutted unions, deregulated everything, let corporations run wild, and then sat comfy while the system hardened. It is generational because y’all locked the doors behind you.

I used to hate seeing posts that said something along the lines of... Harriet couldn't free everybody... because I fundamentally wanted to believe that my people could be reasoned with... as an educator I feel like that's THEE golden rule... Everybody can be taught.

But I'm here to confirm...

Due to CPS using its $2.8B in COVID ESSER funds to make historic investments in instructional staffing...

...CPS students' scores in reading and math outpaced other large, urban school district peers

It's as if funding instructional positions and resourcing schools pays off in academic outcomes

Now, let's look at how this spending relates to educational outcomes, using the last 4 years as a case study

CPS recieved $2.8B USD in COVID ESSER funds and hired roughly 7,000 additional staff members focused on instruction in classrooms.

What happened?

How much federal COVID money went to each Chicago school? Find out here.
The $2.8 billion wave of federal COVID relief dollars that helped pad school budgets is running out – meaning some programs or extra resources could be curtailed or cut.

Let's now look at the municipal level

Chicago has a GDP of ~$832B USD (4th overall)

Chicago spends $30k USD/student (3rd overall) coming in behind NYC and D.C., but ahead of LA

i.e. municipal-level investment is roughly on par with economic production

Let's continue at the state level

IL created the Evidence-based Funding (EBF) formula

EBF says IL should provide CPS $9B USD to adequately fund the district

Illinois provides $8B USD, which means the district is operating at a $1B deficit

www.chalkbeat.org/chicago/2024...
More Illinois school districts are considered adequately funded, but Chicago sees more student need
Chicago will receive an additional $25.8 million in state funding through the Illinois’ school funding formula. But the formula says CPS needs another $1.2 billion to be adequately funded.

Let's start at the state level

Illinois has a GDP per capita of $77,000 USD (~13th overall)

The state spends an average of $15,746 USD per pupil

This gives IL a Cost per Pupil (CPP) to GDP per capita ratio of 0.024 (13th overall)

i.e. state-level investment is on par with economic production

Throughout the @ctulocal1.bsky.social 2025 contract campaign for Schools Students Deserve, opponents have often claimed that Chicago Public Schools spends too much per pupil (roughly $30k/year) while having poor academic outcomes in reading and math.

Here's why that is absolute rubbish, a thread:

Pending approval by @ctulocal1.bsky.social's House of Delegates on Wed., this Tentative Agreement will become the first Labor Agreement won w/out a strike vote authorization since @coreteachers.bsky.social was elected 15 years ago, something that wasn't accomplished under Daley, Rahm, or Lightfoot.
This historic tentative agreement makes gains for the students, families, & public school educators in Chicago by lowering class sizes, expanding community schools and staffing, and more. Congratulations, @CTULocal1.bsky.social! bsky.app/profile/ctul...
BREAKING: Earlier this evening, our big bargaining team and executive board voted in favor of the proposed settlement with CPS. We officially have a tentative agreement. The next step toward transforming our schools, House of Delegates on Wednesday #CTUStrong

I love being a teacher because I am going to take this bill that Arizona is going to pass as an opportunity to create a learning experience for my students. I am making the stats unit on testing claims about whether or not the death penalty should exist in the US.

I LOVE MY STATS CLASS!!

Also in Idaho...
Not sure how to tell if this is real or not because I can only find two recently written articles (Fox and Arizona Mirror) but is Arizona trying to pass a bill that will make people who were sentenced to death before 1992, choose between a firing squad or a gas chamber for the method of execution?
