I'm here to occasionally post about food and (usually) comment something silly, kind, and/or curious on your posts.

If I like an old post, then I think you're neat, sorry not sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️

My DMs are open. What are you thinking about? 🧐 🗣👂🏻

"Current-borne, wave-flung, tugged hugely by the whole might of ocean, the jellyfish drifts in the tidal abyss.
...it has for its defense the violence and power of the whole ocean, to which it has entrusted its being, its going, and its will."

I have the same feeling about today's typical sex/intimate scenes that I had about fresh produce when I was able to compare organic/local vs cheaper :
If this is most people's experience of produce, then no wonder they don't want to eat fruits and veggies. It's all limp and tasteless!
The desexualisation of media (everyone is beautiful, and no one is horny) combined with an increasing hysteria around the 'pointlessness' of sex scenes is a key part of the fascistization of western culture and if we're going to fight back we're going to need to make it normal to be horny again.

You know what, fuck poppy seeds.

Give me kiwi seeds in my baked goods, for a crunch I can actually feel

"are you a boy or a girl?"

I am The New Way. Follow me and live. Reject me and perish.
"are you a boy or a girl?"

I am everything you didn't know you needed. I am the end of the old world and the dawn of the new.

Struggling to wrap my head around this. I start getting nervous if it's been 2 hours and food isn't stored yet

Also, leftovers are life!
I plan my recipe sizes (scale up/down) according to things "here's 5 portions for lunch this week" or "I can freeze half for 4 dinners next month"
Not only that, people don't even know how to store leftovers properly. I've had multiple partners who left food out all day, and then *if* they ever put it away, they don't put it in a container, just rawdogging the fridge!! Insane!!
i feel like no one taught a lot of these kids about per unit cost? like, even if i buy the most expensive ingredients, the per unit cost of making chocolate chip cookies at home is still cheaper than buying them from a bakery.

I very much relate! I bet some recipes downplay time to show up in searches for quick meals.

I want to take a cooking class to improve my prep skills. I often do all my prep (chop, assemble sauce, cook dry beans) one day, then cook the next day.

Great thread for both commiseration and advice 💙
OK so, folks who do a lot of home cooking…

Am I the only one that feels like it just takes an immense amount of time? Recipes are always like “total time: 45min” and before I know it, I’m finally sitting down for dinner an hour and a half later.

I just spent like 2hrs making katsudon for 3. 🥲

I fully endorse this.
I started making little desserts to take to my taiji classmates about a year ago. It's so much fun to surprise them, to get positive feedback, to have leftovers for me. But most of all to build that humanizing habit of planning, doing, and sharing with others
If you don’t have one, if you can, find people and make yourself a weekly food tradition

Whether it’s by yourself or your/ chosen family, or/if you’re ambitious, your neighbours

Make bread or pizza or tortillas or naan, make stew or couscous — fill the air with good smells if you can tolerate them

Too many people liked a post and I got scared lol:

I don't post much on my purported topic anymore (food/cooking). Might redo my posts/banner/name sometime. My ethics and politics live in just my replies for now

We've discussed girl dinner and boy dinner, fine.
Why aren't we talking about little freak dinner? Or sleepy baby dinner? Where's the representation for eldritch horror dinner?

At least once in your life, please make a grilled cheese and peanut butter sandwich. My go-to is sourdough, sharp cheddar, and a plain peanut butter with some added sugar. Would love to hear what breads, cheeses, and nut butters you like too :)

Stop buying fancy-packaged / organic spices. You can get cheaper, equally good stuff in any Latin or Asian grocery store. Look for the aisle with all the flat plastic bags. Just transfer them into empty spice containers (or whatever) and then *use them up*
