You might remember me from Creative Latitude, Designers Who Blog, NO!SPEC, or Women Learn Thai. These days I’m hanging out in Devon with The Man, three Maine Coons and a crazy Staffy.

Unless noted, photos are my own.
The man is allowed to sit alone in the living room… but not me.

House rules (not mine - our cats and Staffy decided this weirdness).

Note. Our three cats lost room privileges when they showed their displeasure by pooing on a silk carpet not once, but twice.

Will the Fig Forest ever be finished? Ugh.

After my black rock idea fell through I needed to do a rethink. So off came the wood chips, to (eventually) be replaced by plum slate chippings.

But first, I need to finish winterising the garden. Next week? Week after? Hmmmm.

Yesterday: first frost in the morning followed by a rainbow in the afternoon. Cold all day.

First frost? Whatever, it’s coooooold! My new gloves are useless… back to searching.

The man went to Cornwall (last rock trip to that area this year). Stunning photo. I like.

“No appointment necessary”… not true in our case but not really a problem. Just relieved that it’s over for another year. Next up, our Covid shots.

Another one gone.
Sainsbury’s it is…

Google: Co-op to close 19 branches across UK in next few months

If you sit, they will come.

What kind of animal hair is this? It’s not cats or bunnies… could it be fox?
November 17, 2025 at 10:51 AM
I’m fairly certain anyone in the village will automatically avoid a crazy pulling Staffy who is straining to lick their face and other fun things, but just to make sure …

Our cats know they are not allowed on the dining room table but cats are cats.

So when snags start showing up on the lovely textile from Thailand (used as a table runner), back comes the ScatMats.

These are the same ScatMats we have in the living room to keep Tansy off a leather chair.

Got a call from the man to please feed the pheasant. He (the man) is in the top field with our Staffy. The pheasant hid under the cherry tree when they walked up but no guarantees they’ll have similar luck on their return.

Wowza is that a lot of thatch…

(ignore the pheasant- he’s forever taking advantage of photo opportunities).

Continues to feel weird watching our roof shed… but all is ok.

Thatched roof guy: It’s been a dry summer so the Lichen does tend to dry & drop off, messy for you but not detrimental to the roof.

Pheasant got tired of waiting for me to show up. I missed the shot, but he was standing at the top of the steps when I finally walked outside.

Musical Doors at our house just became that much harder.

Tansy the Staffy is tough on cats. To avoid any mishaps, our cats are placed behind doors whenever Tansy is on the move.

Remembering to let them out has been ok so far. But we now need to do similar to feed Saxton his special meals. Woot.

It's been a rough week.
Fireworks nightly. Tansy manic for hours.
They caved.
Saxton rushed to the Vet.
They caved.
Saxton home after four days, now on modified diet.
They caved.
They caved.
They caved.
They f'ing caved.

Anyone else having to wrangle with pet feeders?

Saxton came home from four days at the Vet (£2000+ - ouch) with instructions to feed him a special diet. Forever.

But we have three cats.

The Vet suggested feeders. Feeders are fiddly things. Stressful things.

Patience needed? No doubt.

How much rain is too much for a pheasant? This much, apparently.
November 9, 2025 at 4:24 PM
I tried to ignore him. I really did. But he looked so sad standing out there in the dripping rain, waiting for me to show up with his bowl, I just had to dash out.

But seriously… can’t he show up when the sun is shining? Anything but rain.

I have one of these 😁

Lady Marmalade. Absent for awhile but now back.

It’s raining leaves … sweet.

In 2022 I set up a trailcam outside the kitchen. It mostly captured rabbits but when the pear tree was in production, fox stopped by. Apples were plenty but they weren’t interested.
