A generation erased,
dreams gutted,
minds that mapped oceans,
tracked fish fleeing
warming tides.

They knew the sea’s voice,
spoke reef’s tongue,
now silenced.

Who hears the currents now?
Who watches the fish?

We bury tomorrow’s voices,
feeding today’s greed.

This brilliant slide deck is a clear and comprehensive explanation of the polycrisis we are in and why we must reverse biodiversity loss and ecosystem breakdown, stop overconsumption and tackle inequality. The risks of not doing this are unthinkable.

Brilliant protest. Yosemite National Park workers hung an upside-down American flag — traditionally a symbol of distress or a national threat — thousands of feet off the ground on the side of El Capitan.

I wrote about the worst people in the world, charting the depths of their depravity and vastness of their incompetence, and offered some thoughts about the opportunity presented by their failure to acknowledge reality and their refusal to access any form of human virtue.

“The reason we face the worst is because it helps us imagine the best.” What a fantastic, hopeful read. Treat yourself to this, and then spread it around.

The Welsh told the Saxons this hill was called "pen" (meaning "hill"). The Saxons added their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill).

Later the Norse added their world for hill. So it became Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill).

Now the English call it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill)

This kills land use worries for solar across wide swaths of the planet.
Farms can install vertical solar panels without reducing crop yields
Adding rows of upright panels on farmland generates green power in the morning and evening while acting as a windbreak for crops

one thing i’m stuck on is this idea that “masculine” energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.

Years ago a coworker explained cycling to work to another coworker this way which was you're rarely going to be as comfortable as you are in a car but it's going to be a lot more fun and I wish we talked more honestly about the trade offs we have to face to keep this planet livable.

We need to teach critical reading in the schools. Aristotelian logic. Debate. How to deconstruct an argument to identify the fact from the sales pitch.

Less geometry (sorry, it can also be organic chemistry yes you heard me organic chemistry) and more critical thinking. Or we are doomed.
