I suppose I should do an introduction thread to pin (mostly bc I somehow just learned you could pin a post here). I’m Cass, late 30s, black biracial disabled lesbian who loves to write and thinks way too much about tv, film and books. Although I’m actively only watching a few shows, I dip into
Today I made spaghetti for my family with a homemade sauce and stuck some fudgy brownies in the oven. While I cook often I don’t tend to do dinner and dessert in one evening and I’m just saying the world is on fire but I managed dinner and some cookies.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.

Y’all I’ve just entered the hoopla game and I’m so pumped. libraries truly are magical places and should be protected and fought for at all costs.

I’ve read 3 disappointing books in a row so I’m treating myself to a historical by Ms. Beverly. I need my faith restored.

Issues with YA - kidlit in general - get dismissed as unimportant, but y'all should care. What's happening to YA will happen to adult. When you lose teen readers, you lose future adult readers. Publishers dismantling YA has real impacts on adult fiction. It's a cultural attack.

Y’all, Mom found out kid #1’s 1st grade teach (that we befriended a couple years back) has a mom who loves to go to the casino and she’s planning times for all four of us. Shenanigans are very likely to happen soon. (Also hilarious that your mom can still manage to plan play dates in your late 30s)
My mama is taking me to my first casino. will report if anything exciting happens.

In the excitement over quitting that job I forgot to mention that I found two romance bookstores very close to my house (and only down the street from one another). They were very lovely (and oof so pink) with delightful staff and small but interesting collections.

From the vault.

I will not die an unlived life.
I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire.
I choose to inhabit my days,
to allow my living to open me,
to make me less afraid,
more accessible,
to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing.

I sent the resignation email yesterday (our day off) and Friday is my last day.
I survived the Christmas pageant from hades yesterday and idk I might need to quit this job for real bc after all the grief this overzealous stage mom gave us all, our boss didn’t even thank us.

The news about Harlequin translators getting fired en masse?

You should care about that. They're doing it there because they think nobody gives a shit about romance and so it's fine to experiment with it first.

This is so frightening. I raised three in the last three years and I utilized folks I knew, a little research with the American pediatrics association, and our doc. I get needing to look things up but there are SO MANY better options.
