Trying out colored pencils over the past couple days, jumping between sketchbooks to see how different paper feels.

It seems people want to ponder orbs—I mean learn about Matcaps! They're great for gesturing at complex lighting and reflections within a stylized art style. And as a bonus, no UV unwrapping! ^.^
diagram showing matcap textures and where they are used in game models. Matcap (short for “material capture”) materials apply a texture to a mesh using normals *instead* of UV maps. These textures generally look like shiny orbs that have complex lighting and reflections baked in. They are often used in the process of 3D sculpting, but work well for stylized game art like Angeline Era’s! There are tons of free matcap textures available, and setting up a matcap material is pretty straightforward! Metal balls combine a traditional UV texture with a gentle matcap sheen! Even the logo uses a matcap!

a lofi chunky pixelized platformer. the protragonist looks like a thick match stick. as you move, the world zooms out and you become smaller, creating an interesting effect. even further zoomed out, you are getting quite small now. still not sure what the setting is.. possibly a space station or something. you are now tiny but can see much more of the map that you have now explored (without having to use a map).

Cube-based environment art (along with melos’s “auto-cuber” tool) allows for the efficiency and complex secrets-hinting of 2D tilesets combined with the benefits of 3D lighting and atmosphere. Large “EnviroChunks” with flexible triplanar materials quickly establish setting in the background of scenes. Gestural vertex colors quickly and beautifully define characters that pop against the environment and look good small or large onscreen. iNaturalist.org can be an amazing resource for game artists, featuring species id and many public domain community photos of life on Earth! Matcap materials are good for creating shiny or translucent objects while maintaining a simplified/stylized look.

1. In a landmark ruling, a federal judge has blocked the passport ban for transgender Americans... government ban likely violates equal protection, and is made with animus.

Though the ruling only applies to plaintiffs, it is expected expand in coming weeks.

We are all professional musicians active in the video game space, and between us have recorded and arranged for projects including Horizon, Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Manor Lords, Slay the Princess and Hollow Knight.

We can no longer expect to rely on traditional legal frameworks to build worker power and to improve workplace conditions.” If the right-wing, reactionary government that we increasingly have wants to start stripping away that process, they're going to quickly remember that, actually, the NLRB and NLRA are a peace treaty between workers and bosses.
