Sotheby’s is auctioning off a true piece of cocktail history: this bottle of Sazerac Whiskey Cocktail, from between 1902 and 1911, bottled by the Sazerac House in New Orleans. This is the original Sazerac Cocktail, as bottled by the folks who perfected it, and I’ve never seen another example.

Former curator here. This is why I don’t collect spirits. Don’t get me wrong; I have luxe brandy, good whiskey, etc. But there aren’t enough birthdays, anniversaries, or special occasions left in my life to justify saving every bottle. Drink up. Invite friends. Every bottle is meant to be drunk.
