Succinct.
Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.
Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would ‘kill’ the AI industry

Oh, the irony of being made to do one of those "Verify you are human" tests in order to access what turns out to be an AI generated article on the internet.

Hey, it's Amazon Prime (cancellation) days! I'm celebrating cancelling my Prime membership in protest of Amazon union busting tactics in Montreal and not ordering anything at all from them in well over a year! Wooooo!

Haven't even missed it, TBH. How do you celebrate?

I've been here a while but haven't been posting much. I make stuff. Sometimes with wool felting, Sometimes with crochet. Masks, costumes, dance, music, theater. All of it. (That's the awesome Caitlin Green modeling a dress I made in the last pic.)

The are some really excellent episodes of Rick Steve's Europe where he visits Iran. If we were going to put TV hosts in cabinet posts, why couldn't we have had Rick as Secretary of State?

This is complete! An owl mask made of crocheted lace over a wire frame. Thank goodness I don't keep track of how many hours I spend on projects. #fiberart #crochet #masks #lacecrochet

What's keeping you (semi) sane at the moment? For me, it's crochet. #crochet

After a loooong winter here in Montreal, I am as happy as the bees are to see lawns full of dandelions! #NoMowMay is great for our buzzy busy friends, with the bonus of giving us humans lovely carpets of sunny blooms to admire.

Urban reflections of an industrial past. Lachine Canal, Montreal.

The canal was named after China (La Chine) to make fun of Jacques Cartier, who thought the St Lawrence River would provide a route to China. #montreal #lachinecanal #reflections

Prediction: I give it 6 months tops before your ChatGPT prompt asking about what to drink after a workout brings back a specific brand suggestion, boosted by ad dollars. Within a year, all free consumer-facing AI will have devolved into an intrusive personalized ad bot. #endstagecapitalism

Let's celebrate the good parts of the internet, like this blog post about the unexpected weirdness of baby pigeon rearing, which I discovered by Googling "What do pigeon chicks look like?"

Two words: "pigeon milk"!

Why Do You Never See a Baby Pigeon?
Yes, baby pigeons are real. Here's why you're unlikely to ever see one.

I saw a couple posts about "golf" and "Gilmore" today, and this is what I thought was being discussed.

Also, apparently I so rarely type the word golf that autocorrect keeps wanting to change it to "gulf".

Reading the Cheeto-in-Chief's ideas about trade, inflation, and drug costs is reminding me so much of this ad... "That's not how any of this works!"

Without @bsky.app, I wouldn't know the massive scale of protests in the US today! MSM headlines say things like "thousands protested"... More like millions, across the country! #handsoff2025 will pull up lots of videos of gigantic crowds in DC, NYC, Houston, Minneapolis, SLC, etc.

The penguin inhabitants of one of the human-less islands that Trump slapped tariffs on are now fomenting a resistance. Their brothers in arms--er, flippers--the seals are in on it, too!
Defence Ministry: Shoreline defence force Gentoo’s prepare mortars. Our Navy Seals conduct clandestine training, and teach tactical camouflage and concealment to juveniles. We stand ready. Flippers Up.

I'm home sick and have been streaming CBC GEM all day. This spot has played several times. "Empathy over ego"-- imagine that!

Hosted by the Canadian Armed Forces, so maybe it is also designed to boost recruitment?

If Trump invokes the Insurrection Act, he will have the power to deploy the US military within US borders against the people. Now is the time, military members, to learn your rights and to gather information on legal counsel in case you're given an unlawful order.
The clock is ticking down on a crucial but little-noticed part of President Trump’s first round of executive orders — the one tasking the secretaries of the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to submit a joint report recommending “whether to invoke the Insurrection Act.”
Is Trump preparing to invoke the Insurrection Act? Signs are pointing that way
A joint Department of Defense and Homeland Security report will soon recommend whether or not to invoke the Insurrection Act over illegal migration.

Please listen and share—this is a very serious situation. This is extremely alarming! The Trump administration, across two agencies, is considering bringing criminal charges against employees simply for doing their jobs.

"Déneigement" is the French term for snow removal. I'm not sure what these machines are called in Quebecois, but I call them "snow eaters"!

Just getting started here, so I thought I would post a pic of a blue sky. It's on the nose, but I feel like it should be part of a standard initiation ritual.
