My years at #NOAA responding to the #Deepwater Horizon disaster—the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history—left an unforgettable mark on me. That’s why the newly proposed National Outer Continental Shelf #Oil and #Gas Leasing Program is so alarming.
Today, the California coast we cherish and the delicate ocean ecosystems just beyond it face a renewed threat from offshore drilling. We oppose the Trump Administration’s 5-year oil and gas leasing program and will continue to defend our coastline, wildlife, economy, and health from this threat.

Wanted to respond to this - from what I see, the CG is NOT reversing policy. They released a memo clarifying their prohibition of these symbols. Dealing with violations will still be on the command level, which is what was changed. Please see my thread for more info:

(1/9) The CG and Hate Symbols: What We Know So Far (a thread).

Yesterday, WaPo reported that the CG has removed swastikas, confederate flags, and nooses from a list of "hate symbols". This is both technically correct, and an oversimplification.
November 21, 2025 at 5:40 PM
More info: a comparison of the 2023 and 2025 policies removes these examples as "prohibited" and discusses more generally "potentially divisive" symbols. So the WaPo article is factual, but they may still be prohibited by other regs.

I will quote and link the Newsweek article in the comments.
Big CG is now saying the WaPo report was false and “These symbols have been and remain prohibited in the Coast Guard per policy. Any display, use or promotion of such symbols [...] will be thoroughly investigated & severely punished.”

A reaction to backlash?

FASCISM AND ITS SYMBOLS ARE BEING ACCEPTED INTO US MILITARY

Thats the headline
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

"We don't deserve the trust of the nation if we're unclear about the divisiveness of swastikas" - an anonymous CG official, in the article.

A truly disgusting move from the CG, but not unexpected with the direction things have been moving since they removed ADM Fagan.

Do better, Coast Guard.

🚨Dept. of Education proposes to exclude public health degrees from the “professional degree” category.

That means new public health experts could lose access to key higher ed resources, like loan limits & reimbursement.

A bold strategy to let infectious diseases win! 🦠

Quick point of clarification for pundits, politicians, journalists, & any others commenting on the Epstein Trump files:
The victims were NOT "young women". They were CHILDREN.
As such, they were not capable of giving legal consent. Sex without consent is rape.
Words matter. Get them right.

This isn't the behavior of an innocent man. This is the behavior of a liar desperately trying not to get caught.
BREAKING: The NYT is reporting that Trump personally called Republican Lauren Boebert and Nancy Mace to try to get them to remove their signatures on the Epstein File Discharge Petition. Mace didn't pick up, and Boebert reportedly doesn't plan on removing her name.

Release the Epstein files.

If they weren't lying, consistently, and the files would show their innocence, they would have released them way back at the beginning of all of this.
As Karoline Leavitt concludes her press briefing and walks off, @andrewfeinberg.com asks: "What was the president doing with Virginia Giuffre for hours at Epstein's house?"

She did not respond.

As of September 2024 (I know, outdated data) there were over 700,000 veterans working for the federal government. Veterans serve our country in many ways, beyond their time in uniform. Thank you, vets, for your commitment to our country!

50 years ago today, the Edmund Fitzgerald, a Great Lakes freighter, was carrying more than 26,000 tons of Taconite (iron ore) across Lake Superior when she tragically sank during a severe storm, with all hands lost.

The Edmund Fitzgerald and her crew live on in our memories, & today we honor them.
