Awards are just one piece of a big puzzle. Some books win awards. Some books get no stickers but STICK in our hearts forever. This year, all of those books, written so kids might better understand their place in this dark and scary world, feel more important than ever. #ALAYMA #TLSkyChat #KidLit

President Trump's DOE has made themselves clear: they will support book banners in their efforts to strip our institutions of learning of the books that define them.

So let us be perfectly clear: we're going to do whatever we can to try and stop them.

The price of eggs in the US is spiking, mostly due to #H5N1 bird flu. Solving the problem requires urgent, important communications from the CDC & FDA* and rapid development of research by the NIH**

Egg prices are soaring again. Here’s why and what to expect

I feel seen
My fifteenth book comes out this year, yet still, every time I write another, I’m convinced I’ve completely forgotten how to do it. Every time.

But my motto: real writers don’t write, they write anyway.

GET YOUR EYES CHECKED REGULARLY. Yrs ago, my family eye doctor saw something odd in regular checkup (no symptoms), sent me to specialist. Specialist said I had a "subclinical detached retina", had to operate ASAP.

He said that without operation, I would have gone blind in that eye within a year.

I just found out that Unboxing Libby received a starred review from Booklist! They called it a "riveting SF dramedy" and said "any fan of friendship stories will adore this tale of a preteen robot finding her true self." I read the trade reviews for work, so it's super exciting to be in one! #kidlit

I talk to a lot of aspiring picture book writers who have spent YEARS working on their first book. And revision is great! It's essential!

But you know what's really the key to picture book success? Write something new. Then do that again. (thread)

The secret is that other writers aren't competition; they're peers, colleagues and friends. Someone who reads me is going to read other writers as well; the entire publishing economy is "yes, and." Therefore it does me no harm, and much good, to support other writers and to wish them well.
And Heinlein would have approved! Terry Pratchett said, "Most SF writers were once fans. There's a habit they have, not of paying back, but of paying forward; I know of no other branch of literature where the established "names" so keenly encourage wannabe writers to become their future competitors
